3-11-2013 DB's Dailes:Nani & 2 U/M @ RI, RA36@HB&LL, Kaiwi@LL, RB24@NIM, Pohaku@Sec, R912@GR, M&M,Kermit@WO

At 0706 I found what would prove to be 2 U/M on the water front rocks of Rocky Right Beach, on Rabbit Island. Lack of movement and poor angle did not allow an ID on either. I had to leave for another call and when I got back to MI at 1312 both had moved down behind the water front rocks, and I only got small glimpses of body parts all afternoon. I was never able to get an ID, but I'll keep working on it until dark.

At 0741 posse member Jody called from Hanauma Bay with the report of an animal at the east end of the beach. When I arrived at 0750 I found RA36 snoozin' at the base of the cliff, just beyond the fencing that closes off the rock flats of HB. I cordoned off the area, and he remained until departing of his own volition at 1149. I notified the posse that he was on the move, and at 1230 Zeeny called from Lanai Lookout, where she and June were watching Kaiwi(RK96), reported that RA36 was just hauling out to join Kaiwi. He would depart that location at 1458. Kaiwi remained.

When I got back to the pier at 1312 the two U/M were barely visible , but I did find a fully visible Nani (RK60), 30 ft left of 1BS, on RI.

Dana called at 0732 with the report of an animal at Lagoon #1, KoOlina. By the time volunteers got access to the area, the animal was gone.

At 0922 Team Billand found new Kauai female RB24 at 1777 Nimitz Cottages. She was gone when the Billands got back for their 1505 recheck.
At 1035 the Billands reported Pohaku (RO28) at Secrets.

At 1304 they found R912 at Guard Rails Beach, Maili.

At 1440 the Billands reported Kermit (R012) and M&M (R020) together at #1707, White Plains.
Diane & Lesley were trodding the upper east side today, and found R5AY at Kualoa Pt, and Ua Malie (RT10) at Turtle Bay.

Team Billand sent R018 shots from a late call in Nanakuli

Tough location is right! R5AY is along a no parking area on both sides of the road. The ropes and signs are calling attention to her. She would be better served with no signs in this situation because most people would not notice her. This is an accident waiting to happen. Cars and tour buses slow or stop to see what is there. We did see a smashed car directly across from her location one day and had to wonder if it happened because someone was distracted by the signs. Diane
