At 0800
Dera called with the report of an animal at 2F, Waikiki. At 0846 Colleen called
to confirm the Irma (R010) ID. Thankfully, Irma would depart with the rapidly
rising tide at 1456, per Colleen.
Also at
0800 I found an animal, partially visible in a tide pool on the water front
rocks, left of Seal Rock Inlet , on Rabbit Island. At 0905 I finally, saw the
transmitter, and girdle of Kaiwi (RK96). I called Dera aqt 0905 and she got the
NOAA ball rolling. David, Dera, Charles, Chad & Jesse were in place at Makai
Pier by 1020, and the mission commenced. David, Charles and Dera did were the on
island crew, and after a practice capture on Dera, they proceeded to Kaiwi. The
capture, and transport back to Makai Pier went without incident. She was loaded
in a cage and off she went via truck to the Aquarium. Lesley called at 1412 to
advise that Kaiwi was resting comfortably in the tank, and that they were
awaiting the Xray machine. At 1607 I received word that X-rays showed only the
tongue hook, and that was removed.
Kaiwi was transported to Irma's, and was released to
the water at 1710. Thank You to all involved !
Team Billand called at 0809 to report Kermit (R012)
foraging off shore of Kermit's Reef. On their 0900 check, Kermit was gone.
At 0940 they found Kermit fronting the 1813 pavilion at
Nimitz Cottages.
At 0838 the Billands reported Makaiwi (R4DF) fronting
#1708 at White Plains.
Marilyn did the Ka'ena Point trek today , and at 1020,
reported Ka'ena (RO40), RIP (RR70), and BG (R303) at the end of the world.
At 1242 Team Billand called with the report of Benny
(RE74), Kerby (RW08) and Noa (R6FI) together at Maili Point.
Team Billand called well after dark, with a Big Moon
shining, and Kermit still on the beach, along with a bumper crop of idiots, who
just have to be idiots. Check the blog in the morning for the Billands day.
