On my first look at Rabbit
Island at 0625 I found what would prove to be RIP (RR70) at the left end of the
beach. He would enter the water at 1145 and hauled out again at 1200 at Seal
Rock Inlet to join Kolohe.
I caught just a glimpse of
movement to my left, just outside the breakwater, and when I looked, lo and
behold therrrrrre was Kekoa (RK72) 75 ft off the outside of the breakwater
foraging, and eating something. I watched him for about 12 minutes before he
moved on.
I got back to Makai Pier at
0855 to find that RIP had moved down to cool off, and at 0905 Kolohe (RW22)
hauled out fronting 1BS. RIP made a move or two toward him so Kolohe reentered
the water at 0918 and hauled out again to Seal Rock Inlet at 0951, where he
would remain the rest of the day.
Atd 1022 Kekoa (RK72) hauled
out 60 ft right of 3BS on RI. He would remain there the rest of the day.
At 1212 Buster (RV08) would
haul out at 3BS and galumph to join Kekoa. Interaction was minimal. They
remained there snoozin' together the rest of the day.
At 0802
Colleen checked in to advise that Irma (R010) had once again overnighted at
Diamond Head. So far its the 3 day, 2 night package. Colleen called at 1705 to
advise that Irma had departed. Tomorrow ?????
Dana called at 0826 to
advise of an animal at Kualoa. The photo provided was not of a quality to get
an ID.
At 1217 Team Billand checked
in with the report of Pohaku (RO28) at Guard Rails, Maili. According to my
records she had last been seen at Paradise Cove, on 4-29-12.
At 1305 the Billands
reported Kermit (R012) and Kerby (RW08) together at Maili Point.
At 1323
M&M would haul out to Maili Point, separate from the boys, however Kerby
would later move over to join her.

Hi Oahu friends, Kim from Kauai here. I just wanted to let you know I'll be sending you a couple pics of Rocky and pup later today, after a visit. The 'ol girl appeared, and we weren't sure it was her, at first. We've had a few pregnant visitors, and the untagged ones, we typically assume are from Niihau. We didn't know Rocky had lost her tags since we last saw her a year ago! Thankfully, she's got some good identifying scars. She pupped almost in the exact, same spot as last year AND inside an enclosure we'd set up a few weeks prior for a previous pup. That Rocky is so accomodating. More to come on that front. Also, big mahalos to you and your team for helping with the de-hooking of RK36. He arrived home looking good, although not even endangered monk seals are immune to flight delays. But the Coasties were good to him, and he was released late in the afternoon at Salt Pond. A touching moment, for sure. Our condolences on the loss of Sharkbite. We lost one of his cohort late last year. The old ones sure are special. What am I saying? They all are!
Kim THANK YOU so much! We were all excited to hear about Rocky's giving birth just when we experienced the loss of T15M.
Nice that Rocky is so accommodating for you on Kauai because she sure as heck gives us a run for our money here on Oahu when she decides to spend time in Waikiki.
So happy Rk36 "Kauai Kolohe" made it home safe... he was in great hands with some extremely dedicated volunteers.
When we look at the bigger picture, we're all in this together, looking after these incredible animals. Looking forward to seeing Rocky's pup!
