Team Billand once again had the boys at Maili Point. Seems the boys like hanging out here... a little bit of a break from Ka'ena Point. Here we have 4 year old Kerby who is looking very grown up... He's going to be checking out the girls soon enough.
John Brown from the BBC - anyone want to shed some light on what they are filming besides our monk seals? He was out at Ka'ena Point yesterday.... Do we know if it will air here in the states?

John Brown is a film maker and he is here to film Hawaii and everything it has to offer. Spiders, the ocean, dolphins, birds, our beloved Monk Seals who are in danger of leaving earth.
I was at first so apprehensive about film makers, but, John is a very nice person, calm, and was so happy he met up with...Kerby and Noa. And for some reason yesterday, the seals were..NUTS. For hours both seals fought and frolicked from the rocks to the ocean and back to the rocks.
Ok, 5:43am called John for a meeting.
6:30am found Kerby alone on the rocks. Called John to report...WE GOT A SEAL. Gave em directions to find our meeting spot at Electric Beach.
John had to gather his stuff, so we continued our route, WITH NO MORE SEALS..NOT EVEN OUR KERMIT.
8:26am Took John to spot..and to my happy eyes, I found one more seal..NOA.
From the beginning, I senced something was different with Noa, who was way to the right...not with Kerby..and he was plopping about on the rocks, looking so nervous. Then he rentered the water. NO!!!!!! WAIT ... COME BACK, the BBC man is here!!!
Noa made his way to Kerby, and Kerby jumped in the water with Noa and for hours they played, fought, from the rocks to the opened ocean, came back over and over.
John was in heaven with the fighting and barking.,..Wow, he asked, did I plan this for his filming? Awh, NO but this is so cool. I also explained to John about a theory I had..that there is a cave they enter, then come out of a lava tube. Just I never got it on film for proof. Well, Mr Kerby got washed off the rocks with a giant wave, entered the cave, was gone for a bit. I spotted a head in the lava tube, peeking about. It was Kerby and he popped right out of the lava tube with all the serges of the water. Oh my god, he did come from the tube, and John is my witness. Cool. Documented ... finally.
By 11am the seals hauled up on the rocks together, as usual, BEST BUDS. We continued our search, John went to Haunama bay to film Irma. Never heard if he found her or not.
Thanks lady ocean for providing our seals for John of BBC..Thanks Noa and Kerby for being great performers for all of us. It was purely a great session. And wouldnt you know, all my fight scenes sucked??!! DAM...But I got the lava tube segment and that was gold for me...I was right, there is a cave and the seals do come out of the lava tube..Cool.
Oh I forgot, John Brown is from BBC, THE ANIMAL PLANET. Dont know when it will air...hope someone tells us that part...I'd love to see what John shot of our seals fighting. It was so exciting!!!
Barbara, so glad you were able to meet with John, he was anxious to film on the West side. I will try to find out when Animal Planet will air the footage, and I will post the date/time on the blog when it becomes available.
Hi Barbara, Thank you so much for taking John out to see the seals! That production is also going up to Midway in late June (I might go with them) so hopefully they'll get the seal story across the whole archipelago! (they'll also be filming albatross fledging and other special Hawaiian wildlife) It'll end up as a 1 hour Animal Planet special and we will DEFINITELY let the monk seal ohana know when we have dates for broadcast! Thank you for all the hard and wonderful work you all do!
That's so cool Rachel. Appreciate your up coming announcement of the One Hour show on Animal Planet. And thanks Vera too. Looking forward to that program...wow, so cool.
