March 28, 2025 Friday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:15 to 1:30 pm and there was one seal seen during that time.

Between the 3BS and SRI was the same Adult Female Marilyn has been seeing lately. Adult size, mottled tan female belly, scar on lower neck/upper chest and two red tags.

The only company she had were all the Sooty Terns flying around.

Tammy met up with Lesley and Michael today to check out the point. The vog made the air thick along

with the high temps it was hot! The Albatross chicks are growing up nicely.

It was a slow seal day in that they only saw two critters today. First they saw R420 Kaipo, resting ont he rocks alone. Then there was PvKauai RW02 laying on the black rocks. Its a wonder they weren't in the water since it was so hot out there.

Team R&B started out at pokai and it was a busy morning. There were multiple seals by the jetty, fighting/playing., all with mouths wide open, flipper slapping and tails in the air.

They were able to ID, RL20 Kalua, R3CX Nalu and RP28 Wakea. There was another seal adult with lots of green.

Team R&B stayed for two hours and none of them landed. They watched and there were two seals that went along the rest camp shores with swimmers in the water.

At Kahe they found RK72 Kekoa Alii. He was alone sound a sleep on the rocks. While checking him out they saw a seal foraging at the outfall, but couldn't make an ID or get a photo.

They headed over to nimitz and found R407 Kawika. He was alone sleeping on shore. The waves kept slapping him, but it didn't bother him none, he just kept snoring.

Team R&B went back to check on the boys at pokai, hoping they had hauled out. The only seal they found was little RP28 sleeping alone on the rocks. A wave knocked him off and he wiggled his way to the right, looked around. There were two people that had showed up, so he took off.

He headed out and suddenly the other seals were all there to greet him. Then the fun began with the fighting/playing.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:25 to 2:06 pm and there were two seals seen during that time.

Almost directly down from the 1BS was an Adult Male: adult size, dark coat, dark gray male belly and at least one red tag. This is definitely not RK24.

Initially on the rock flats Waimanalo side of SRI was the same Adult Female, that Marilyn has been seeing lately. Adult size, light tan female belly, scar on upper chest/lower neck and two red tags. She later moved up onto the beach.

Team R&B's first find today was RM31 Kai. He was on the rocks, and there was no hook or line seen.

While checking him out they saw another seal coming to the rocks. The seal saw RM31 and left. They later found the seal hidden in the rocks, it was Kala RH76.

They spotted multiple seals foraging. They were able to ID R3CX Nalu, RP28 Wakea, and RL20 Kalua. Then they saw the Akule guys, and were worried for the seals, as they went to the net. The fishers on the jetty all left in disgust. Team R&B nervously watched, especially RP28, in fear they would get

snagged. Finally they saw RP28 haul out, whew! The other seals stayed out there filling their bellies.

Another two boats were netting at the outfall. Team R&B saw one seal an Adult with red tags.

They headed out to Nimitz and were delighted to find two seals. There was RL08 and R407 on shore together resting peacefully. RL08's cyst is oozing again, but he appears to be fine.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:44 to 2:43 pm and there were two seals seen during that time.

Initially there was only one seal when Marilyn started viewing. On the beach near the SRI channel was RK24 Bruno: adult size, gray male belly, lower lip scar and scar on right rear side.

About 1:43 pm, Marilyn realize that another seal had hauled out between 3BS and SRI. This seal is labeled Adult Female: adult size, two red tags, tan female belly and scar on lower neck/upper chest.

Team R&B started their day finding multiple seal foraging in the waters at pokai.

First was RL20 Kalua foraging near the jetty and open ocean. Next they ID'd R3CX Nalu. He stayed away from the jetty area and the other seals.

They observed two seals playing/fighting. They were happy to see RP28 Wakea with RL20 Kalua. It seemed like RL20 and R3CX were keeping RP28 away from the jetty. Interesting to see the elders teaching the kid, on what to do and not to do.

They headed over to Kahe where they saw a seal swimming, heading in the direction of KoOlina. They got a couple of pics, before they lost sight of the seal. They best they could tell it was an adult.

Just before leaving they spotted two seals off by the outfall area. The seals were foraging and there were lots of snorkelers out there. Team R&B did their best to get an ID but just couldn't since they were far off in the water.
