They headed out early hoping to find some seals, but they didn't find any.  While checking out pokai they saw some splashes out in the water. There were the dolphins, scattered here and there. There were a lot of them. One oof them had a baggie on its fin dragging it as it swam along. 

Then much to their surprise while taking photos they discovered agreen seal among the pod of dolphins. If that wasn't enough of a surprise a second seal showed up.  The green seal looked like it could be R3CX Nalu and the seal with the clean coat was Lei Ola RH48.

After checking other areas they returned to pokai in the afternoon. They were very happy to find that Miss Kala RH76. She was alone

and snoozing peacefully, high up in her new hiding spot.  She's very clever finding hiding spots away from the boys.

They were on the road in traffic when they noticed a seal on shore from afar. They drove down but the waves were really big and they only stayed long enough to get a photo and ID RL42 Leia. Thankfully she turned on her side.

September 25, 2024 Wednesday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:01 to 2:56 pm and there were three seals seen during that time.

On the Lanikai side of LPB was a seal labeled as Juvenile Male (although he might be weaner RT19): Juvenile size, light male belly and unsure about tags. This seal appears to be too thin to be a weaner. 

Marilyn has been thinking that maybe RT90 and RT19 followed R416 once he completed his molt and left the island.

Between 3BS and SRI was an Adult Male: small adult size, dark brown male belly, and two red tags. It appears he also has a scar above his left eye.

At 2:41, Marilyn saw that an Adult Female had hauled out between 3BS and the adult male. The A/F was adult size, medium gray female bell and two red tags.

A late email from posse pal Kathy informing me that RH32 Kaale was at paradise cover this afternoon.  He is looking green and he certainly is a big boy.

Team R&B's first find was at pokai. Today RH76 Kala was hauled out  and alone.  They did a recheck later and Kala was gone. The tide was super high.

Their only other find today was another female RL42 Leia. She was really hard to see on the rocks, but somehow they found her. And to make it even better RL42 was very cooperative and showed her tags.

September 24, 2024 Tuesday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:15 to 2:35 pm and there were three seals seen during that time. Initially alone on LPB was an Adult Female: adult size, newer coat, light gray female belly and two red tags. She appears to have some jagged marks mid-ventral and a line scar on her left lower chin.

At 2:11 pm, Marilyn noticed that an Unknown Sub-adult had hauled out next to the A/F. The U/S was large juvenile to small subadult size, two red tags and light sand-covered ventral. 

Between 3BS and SRI was an Adult Male: small adult size, old coat, golden brown male belly and two red tags. He appeard to have a scar on his right lower chin.

It took Team R&B a long time before they spotted any seals. The waves were huge covering the area. Finally they spotted a few seals foraging. 

First seals they were able to ID were RH48 Lei Ola and R3CX Nalu. They were in the school of fish getting their fill. Then they headed off in the direction of the rest-camp.

Then they saw RH76 Kala coming in with R3CX, but then  lost sight of them They kept checking everywhere to see if they hauled out. Finally they spotted Kala hiding in a small pond, looks like she ditched Nalu. She is looking beautiful with her shiny coat in the sunlight.

After checking other areas they returned to do a recheck on Kala RH76. She was still in the same spot resting comfortably.

Team R&B did see a small pod of dolphins late in the day. They noted that one of them had a lure wrapped around its fin.

They ended their day at the cliffs where a group of boys were heading over to an area. So they hurried over to see a seal and the waves knocking it off the rocks. They saw its tag P30 and were thrilled to see RP30 Puka back. It's been a while since they have seen him.

He rolled about wave after wave rolling him. That was it, he left and they lost sight of him.

From afar they spotted a large turtle onshore at Makaha.

September 23, 2024 Monday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:50 to 3:45 and there were two seals seen during that time. Marilyn also noted that after communication with Tracy, the seal she has labeled as RT90 yesterday and Friday most likely was a recently molted sub-adult.

For the first hour and half Marilyn did not see any seals and kept herself occupied by reading a good book.  (something DB use to do).  As Marilyn was doing her final scan of the island at 2:21 pm she saw the trace of a seal behind waterfront rocks between SRI and RRB. Later she realized that there were two seals there. She stayed for an additional hour and half, but the time spent didn't give her much more information.

Marilyn is labeling these seals as an Unknown Unknown: probably sub-adult to adult size with and old dark coat.

The other seals was an Unknown Male: probably sub-adult size, light male belly, not sure about tags or anything else.

Team R&B arrived at the bay and immediately saw two Chinese tourist hurrying about in the native plants. Team R&B realized they were watching as RH76 Kala hauling in and the waves were helping her move over to her zen area.  

Team R&B spoke to the tourist and asked them to not step on the native plants. One of  them was the same one from the other morning, who was making Kala bark.

Team R&B went back two more times during the day. Kala was still there on site, but had moved over to the rocks to hide. 

While in the area they spotted two seals foraging near a small boat. One was a clean female who they ID'd as RH48 Lei Ola. The other seal with her was a male who they ID'd as R3CX Nalu.

They talked to the lifeguard who said the school of fish out there is big and the seals have been coming to feed for over a month. He said there were sharks as well, just reef sharks, white tips and today jelly fish. The lifeguard noted that the seals never haul out of there anymore, they just come to eat.

While on the road they saw a seal at Makaha so they pulled over. There was a green male who looks like he is ready molt. They saw one tag that say W... they weren't sure, but after checking with the posse they believe this male is RW02 PvKauai.
