1/30/2016 DB's Dailies: Kolohe&RG32@Rabbit Island, UU@White Plains, Pohaku@Paradise Cove, Kekoa@Maili Pt, , UU@Nimitz Cove

At 0924 I found what would turn out to be Kolohe (RW22) , just as yesterday, on the water front rocks of Rocky Right Beach, on Rabbit Island. It took 3 hrs of waiting but he finally rolled over and showed me his right side “cue ball” bleach.

On a pan at 1154 I chanced upon RG32, fronting 1BS on RI. Both animals would remain all day, and were the cast for the SE quadrant today.

The Billands checked in at 0650 having just missed an animal at White Plains according to witnesses. The fresh wallow was at the usual Benny location, so he may have returned to the west side after his Diamond Head adventure, but ????

At 1039 Team Billand text advised that they had just departed the U’ilani memorial, and spreading of her ashes. Barbara was very emotional about having been on the canoe. The Billands were very close to U’ilani because of there weekly trips to the Reef Runway, her birth site.

Also on the 1039 text the Billands advised that Warren had just reported Pohaku (RO28) at Paradise Cove.

Team Billand reported the find of Kekoa (RK72) at Maili Point, at 1456.

They were next responding to a Dana call about an animal at Nimitz Cove. The UU was gone when the Billands arrived.

1/29/2016 DB's Dailies: RM38,RG32&Kolohe@Rabbit Island, U/U@Spitting Cave, Kekoa@Maili Point, RIP,Aukai,Ka'ena,Luana,Kimo Kai&RW02@Ka'ena Point

At 0726 I found RM38 fronting 3BS on Rabbit Island. It was not until I got back at 0853 that I saw a small animal hidden in the tall grass directly above RM38. When he moved down it proved to be RG32.

At 0928 Kolohe (RW22) briefly hauled out to the other two. RM38 moving down to meet him, made Kolohe decided to depart. There was never any interaction. Kolohe would haul out at 0944 to the water front rocks of Rocky Right Beach, where he remained the rest of the day.
At 1110 Gayle advised that she had briefly seen an animal doing 10 minute dives at Spitting Cave. The animal moved further out into the bay. She was not able to ID the animal and her photos did not provide enough information to allow an ID.

Tammy T.,and hubby did the End of the World trek today. She reported RIP (RR70&Aukai(RL12), on the Back Beach, and Ka’ena,Luana,Kimo Kai & RW02 in the Main Pool. Kimo Kai would relocate to the Back Beach and the other 3 hauled out to the Main Beach. Lesley checked in later in the day, reporting essentially the same cast, with the exception of RW02 not being seen.

Team Billand’s only animal of the day was Kekoa (RK72) whom they found at 1219, alone, at Maili Point.

A check of Instagram provided two shots from today of an animal at Moku Nui. Though an Unknown is required, Nani must be at the top of the list, she she has been confirmed there in the last few days.

1/28/2016 DB's Dailies: Kolohe,RM38&RK36@Rabbit Island, DB, Nihoa@Turtle Bay, Pohaku@Paradise Cove, Kekoa@Maili Point, Nani (RK60)@Moku Nui

From the moment I became aware this morning, in the wee hours, I’ve been stressin’ , waiting for the Benny shoe to drop. His arrival at Diamond Head yesterday suggested that he was movin’ this way. Now, having survived yet another day, there was no Benny in my life at all today. What the boy is up to, Only Benny Knows.

The terminal VOG conditions made observations a challenge. At 0830 I found RM38 snoozin’, fronting 3BS on Rabbit Island. At 0842 he would be joined by Kolohe (RW22)at 1043. They would remain there together the rest of the day.

On a pan at 0842 I became aware of an animal out on the right end rock flats, beyond Rocky Right Beach. After a full day of observations it was apparent that it was RK36. He was last seen at Turtle Bay, day before yesterday.
Though the photos are horrible, and of no value to ID purposes, I saw all the major markers, as well as several other markers that I was able to confirm once I got home to check what I observed against my photo database. It was absolutely RK36. I’ve gotta’ cat on it !

A Team Billand text at 0516 advised that Paradise Cove Security had reported an animal. At 0545 they were able to confirm the Pohaku (RO28) ID. She was up against yesterday’s signs, but they were able to establish and better SPZ once she moved down for the day. There were the usual problem people, as is usually the case.
Mahalos to PC Security, Warren, Nancy& Mina.

At 1130 the Billands found Kekoa (RK72) on his own at Maili Point. 1155 mail from Dr. Tom brought word , and photos of Nihoa (R912) at Turtle Bay.
