August 6, 2025 Yesterday's Rabbit Island Update

Here's Tuesdays Rabbit Island Update in Marilyn's own words:

I viewed Rabbit Island from 11:43 am to 2:17 pm. It was mostly sunny with some passing clouds and moderate winds.

There were six to seven HMS seen on RI during my viewing session.

When I started viewing their were three seals near each other at the back Lanikai side of LPB.

Recent Weaner 1 (RW1, either PO11 or PO12): chubby weaner size, light male belly, no tags.

Juvenile Female (JF): large juvenile size, new coat, light female belly, not sure about tags.

TempN25: sub-adult size, old coat, mottled male belly, applied N25 bleaches on mid-dorsal and rump, no tags.

The above three seals entered the water at about 12:37 pm and hauled out again about 1:10 pm. Then they entered the water again, and only the RW1 hauled out later.

In the depression near the cliff at the back of LPB were at least two seals which I have labeled UU1 and UU2. I have no idea which seals these are, although it is likely one was the other recent weaner.

When I started viewing there was a seal on RRB. I believe this was one of the older weaners, either RU24 and RU38. The seal was gone at 12:56 pm and was not knowingly seen again.

At 2:07 pm, a seal hauled out at the front of LPB and almost immediately moved up and over the berm and disappeared. I'm labeling this at UU3, although it could be one of the seals I reported
