Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:39 to 2:25 pm and there were four seals seen during that time.
At 1:15 pm one of the recent weaners hauled out on the Lanikai side of LPB. This weaner is labeled RU48: chubby weaner size, two red tags, and light male belly. The weaner may have a hazy applied bleach on its right side. Marilyn noted that NOAA team tried to bleach one of the recent weaners on their last tagging trip to Rabbit Island.
In the middle of LPB in a slight depression was the molting Sub-adult Female: she appears to be about 75% molted with a clean ventral and about half of her dorsal. She did not give Marilyn much of a view today.
Near the waterline at Middle cliff was another weaner labeled RU64: chubby weaner size, two red tags and light male belly. He entered the water at 1:40 pm and was not seen again.
Down from 3BS was a weaner labeled RU38: older weaner size and shape, yellow female belly and two red tags.
Team R&B first find today was at rest camp, where there were lots of people out in the water. Between the swimmers and kayakers the seals seem to stay further out. R3CX Nalu had a swimmer next to him at one point, which he did not appreciate.
RL20 Kalua was out there further out. He didn't care if anyone was nearby, he just kept swimming and foraging.
While watching the seals forage they spotted a mongoose on landslither in and out of the bushes. He must have enjoyed what he was eating because he was licking his chops.
Next they went to check on R604. She was back at her original spot resting. They were happy to see that she is 100% molted and looking great. She'll be ready to head out soon.
A man stopped by and said he had a friend that had been sending him pictures of a sick seal at tracks. Team R&B explained she wasn't sick, just molting, shedding her old coat. Although I have to say I understand why someone would think there was something wrong.
Lastly they got a call from a friend of a seal resting onshore at Nimitz. So they headed over and found one big male R407 Kawika. He is a big boy!
