At 0847 when I got back to Makai Pier for my 2nd Rabbit Island look, I found Aukai (RL12), at 1BS. She would enter the water at 1010. She hauled out again in the afternoon at 1307 to 3BS, remaining until 1318 and then relocating back to 1BS at 1325 to join Nani .
At 1003 what would prove to be Kaiwi (RK96) hauled out to Seal Rock Inlet. It took until 1135 before she moved into view so I could make the ID.
At 1146 Kekoa (RK72) hauled out to Seal Rock Inlet. He had already done a cruise of the entire shoreline before hauling out. It would take until 1207 to realize that Kaiwi was just 30 ft away, behind some rocks. Once he spied her he was all over her. After interaction, they entered the water together at 1311.
At 1215 Nani (RK60) hauled out to 1BS. Her molt is 85%. She would be joined by Aukai at 1325.
Marilyn took off today and was out there on Monk Seal duty. She called at 0820 with the report of a “drive by” animal that popped up just once at Spitting Cave. It was in travel mode and was only visible for a few seconds, moving further into the bay. She checked CW & KK but found nobody. Despite lotsa’ lookin’ that was to be her only find.
Melanie was out there also from 11 to 2. She coved Kuliouou to AD, but was unfortunately, skunked.
Colleen called at 0711 to advise that Rocky (RH58) remained at Kaimana. Colleen advised that Ruth reported Rocky departing between 1300 & 1400.
(somewhere during the course of the day.... Team Billand found Nihoa (R912 at Keaau)
Aukai RL12
Kaiwi and Kekoa
U/U at spitting cave
Nihoa R912 looking pretty cute even though she got dirt all over her face
