12-31-2013 Happy New Year

Wishing each and everyone of you a very happy and healthy new year.... Let's hope 2014 brings good things for our beloved Hawaiian monk seals.

12-31-2013 DB Dailies

At 0827 Marilyn called with the report of Kea (RN46) doing 10 minute dives at Spitting Cave.

At 1517 Gayle called to advise that she had found Kea at Lanai Lookout Cove.

At 1643 posse member Linda called to report Rocky (RH58) in her backyard at the Kokee Flats. When we arrived at 1700 we confirmed the Rocky ID.

At 0650 Team Billand reported Makaiwi (R4DF) at #1707, White Plains.

At 0754 they added Buster (RV08) at #1708 to their WP cast.

At 0915 Kermit (R012) arrived, joining Makaiwi at #1707.

At 1431 Team Billand found Kerby (RW08) at Maili Point.

Team Billand reported Ewa Girl (RS00) at Wind Sock at 1830.

12-30-2013 DB's Dailies: Aukai@RI, Kea@SC, Makaiwi,M&M,Buster,Kermit&Haupu@WP

Despite lots of miles and lots of lookin’ it would be 1011 before I found my first critter. It was Aukai (RL12), 60 ft right of 3BS on Rabbit Island.

At 1022 posse member Susan called with the report of "N46" at Spitting Cave. When I arrived at 1043 I confirmed the Kea ID. Unfortunately, I saw only 2 ups before he was run off by a dive tour group.

Tracy called at 1115 with the answer to yesterday’s U/U animal at Blowhole. It was Benny’s Girl, BG (R303). Her visits to the SE quadrant are rare. I saw her at Spitting Cave on 4-3-11, and on 2-13-09 she hauled out at Crappy Cove. She was seen once on Molokai on 11-30-07 so she could well be here going to or returning from an inter-island trip, but ??????? Her last sighting was on 12-11-13 at White Plains.

Team Billand called at 0700 to advise that Buster (RV08), M&M (R020), Makaiwi (R4DF) & Kermit (R012) were at #1708, White Plains. Witnesses said Benny (RE74) had been there but departed 15 minutes before their arrival. The Billands reported Buster’s departure at 1233, and Makaiwi’s departure at 1419, however Makaiwi returned at 1436, hauling out to #1707A.

At 1255 the Billands advised that Eileen had reported T21M at the Reef Runway.

At 1741 Team Billand reported the arrival of Haupu (RB24) to join Kermit at 1708, WP.

Donna forwarded shots from Sullivan Haskins, taken Friday on the Mokes of a female animal. ID is inconclusive.

12-29-2013 DB's Dailies:Aukai@RI, U/U@BH, Kea@Eternity Beach, Benny,Makaiwi,Kermit,M&M@WP, Ewa Girl@RR

At 0714 I found what I believed to be Buster foraging at Blowhole. At 1019 with better lighting it became clear that this was not Buster. I have no clue who it is, but thankfully there are excellent markers, so Tracy can provide some insight. If anyone recognizes the markers let me know.

On my 4^th look at Eternity Beach, at 0928 I found Kea (RN46) on the beach below. I cordoned him off and he remains. Kea was still there when I departed in the dark.
