In yesterday's news I received an email from a phone number I did not recognize. So I apologize for not acknowledging the person who sent it. The email was of a seal at Kawelo Basin that was swimming around the harbor. It was an adult and based on the distinctive scar on the side of its face and with help from Team R&B the seal's ID is RH92 Nalani.  Also there were a couple of video clips that I could not load onto the blog, but I am posting her photo.

Team R&B started their day checking on the Unknown Male at pokai. He is still there hiding in the rocks near the grassy area. They were amazed how much he has molted since yesterday. They suspect this is R617 but just can't confirm. But maybe in a day or so they will see what they need to make the ID.

Next heading over to rest-camp area, once again there were several seals out in the water foraging.

The first to be ID'd was Aukai RL12. They watched as she caught a fish, but couldn't find the photo of it.

Next was a surprise! There was another green seal with tags. Thankfully they were able to read them and were surprise to see RH32 Kaale.

Next up was the couple that has been hanging out together. Pretty female with a green snout RH48 Lei Ola. She tried to stay away from the males the best she could.

They spotted Nalu R3CX looking green with racoon eyes. 

Lastly they spotted RL20 Kalua who wasn't as vocal today. They did hear him but nothing like the last couple of days. He stayed on his own away from the other seals.

Team R&B noted a lot of splashing and saw a fin. I assume a shark.

Their only other find today was at Kahe. They looked around and saw a small face of a seal. They watched to get an ID and finally when he dove down they got the tag. It was RM31 Kai.

October 27, 2024 Sunday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:10 to 2:25 pm and there were "only" four seals seen during that time.

On the 1BS side of LPB was RK24 Bruno: adult size, new coat, gray male belly and a scar on the right rear side.

At 1:30 pm, a juvenile seal showed up almost directly down from 1BS. Marilyn wasn't sure if this seal had just hauled out or had come down from the dunes. Juvenile Male: juvenile size, new coat, light male belly and unsure about tags.

About 50 feet Makapuu side of 1BS was molting RN04 Kainoa: large male size, about 60% molted show and almost clean gray male belly. Later the JM moved closer to Kainoa and then Kainoa moved up into the dunes directly above the JM.

About 30 feet Makapuu side of the 3BS was an Adult Female: robust adult size, sand-covered gray female belly, unsure about tags.

Team R&B started their day checking in at pokai. They were happy to the Unknown Male sleeping by the grassy area as he continues to molt. They estimate he is about 5%. 

When they went back later in the day too recheck he was alone in the pond resting.

Next they headed over to rest-camp and with better weather conditions they spotted four seals foraging.

Lei Ola RH48 with her green snout, RL12 Aukai with all her scars, Nalu R3CX who was foraging along with the two females. 

Team R&B wondered if the seals have been foraging here all these years, but were never noticed..... I don't know I think someone would have noticed at some point. 

The fourth seal was RL20 Kalua who they could hear bellowing the whole time. Every now and then he would go after the girls and there would be some big splashes. Then a couple of time times he and

R3CX went at it. He was smart enough to move away from Nalu.  

After searching many of the usual spots they finally found two more seals hauled out. Out at the water front rocks was the lovely RH76 Kala in the company of RG28 Lefty.  This may explain why she hasn't been seen around so much lately, in that she's being followed by yet another male.

October 26. 2024 Saturday's Dailies

Team R&B arrived at pokau very early today as they had some errands to do. When they arrived they found the Unknown Male alone sleeping way up on shore. His molt has finally opened up so he's about 1% for now.

They had left, but a friend had let them know two teenage boys went down to where the seal was. When they looked over the kids were lighting up and waving to the seals who was scurrying about.

Later when Team R&B got back they were disappointed that the unknown male was no longer around.

When they made it over to rest-camp they spent a long time studying the four seals foraging. The weather wasn't the greatest for viewing. It was difficult to tell if they had a clean coat or greenish. But they managed to make the following ID's;  RL12 Aukai, RH48 Lei Ola, R3CX Nalu. 

And then there was.....

RL20 Kalua, who has a crazy personality at times. He doesn't care

about people, kind of like how Benny was.  He was foraging all over the area and then ended up by the wall which scared folks out of the water.  One of the kids ran over to the lifeguard to let him know there was a seal in the water.

RL20 is also every vocal, you can hear him from afar.  There were two kayaks and RL20 followed them around going from the front to the back.  Team R&B have seen him jump chest high trying to get to the Akule row boat, so he is very unpredictable.  Thankfully he didn't attempt that today.
