06/26/2022 Tribute to Benny the LifeGuard

 Back in winter of 2010 Benny decided to hang out with the life guards. In November he was hanging out with the crowds made his way to the life guard's steps and took a nap. 

In December he decided to finish his molt at the life guard station. Thankfully the Life Guards were considerate and kept him safe. But once again it was Benny pushing the envelope and putting himself out there.

06/27/2022 Monday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:40 to 2:15 and there were seven seals on island today.

Farthest Lanikai on LPB was MO6-PO6. Marilyn saw some nursing and again PO6 tried to climb over Mom's back. Not sure why the kid does this.

More in the middle of LPB was MO7-PO7. Marilyn observed at least one nursing session and as often the case PO7 goes behind Mom and is not visible.

About 20 feet Makapuu side of MO7-PO7 were two more seals.

A/M: adult to subadult size, dark male belly and at least one red tag on the LRF.

Not far away was a S/F: subadult to adult size, greenish female belly and two red tags. Marilyn never got a good view of the left side of the SF. So she could not see if there was a NB or not.

Not far from the 3BS was a J/F: juvenile size, light female belly and two red tags.

Team R&B found RP30 Puka at a west side location. He was to the right of seal inlet, resting alone.

Next stop they spotted a seal foraging in the water. There was RL20 filling his belly and stealing fish from the fishers. Seems this little thief reminds me of another critter..... any guesses?

After searching all the local spots they decided to make the Ka'ena

West trek. They were most grateful to find RP84 Pe'ekai resting on the rocks. As the waves started to build and toll in, he made his way to higher ground. There he was quite hidden from view. If they hadn't been there to see him move they never would have found him.

A couple spotted him moving and were so excited to see their first seal. So of course Team R&B were happy to tell them all about Pe'ekai.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island today from 12:15 to 2:15 and there were NINE seals on island today. She was joined by Tammy who must of brought all the seals with her. 

Seven seals were all spread out on LPB:

MO6 and PO6 were on the most Lanikai side of LPB. They entered the water twice during Marilyn's observation. They ultimately ended up behind MO7 after they hauled out for the second time. PO6 nursed several times. Both mom and pup O6 seem to be doing just fine.

MO7 and PO7 were next on the beach. PO7 headed for the water once with Mom keeping a close eye on the trip. PO7 got washed some and then galumphed back up to and ultimately behind MO7.

In the middle of LPB was a group of three subadult to adult seals:

S/F: subadult size, lighter female belly with some green and two red tags. In some photos she looked fairly thin, then in others she appeared normal.

A/M: adult to subadult size, dark male belly, unsure about tags. In some photos and while viewing, they thought this seal appeared to have one white nail on it RRF. 

RK37 Hui'a: subadult female, lighter female belly with some green, two red tags and NB on lower left side. The A/M stayed close to RK37. ( better her than one of the moms.

Slightly Makapuu side of the 3BS was a J/F: smaller juvenile size, female belly and two red tags.

On the rock flats behind SRI was an U/J: larger juvenile or small subadult, two red tags and lighter belly. Unsure of gender, although Marilyn suspects its a female.

Team R&B made their rounds and at the bay found Nalu R3CX snoozing. He was on the rocks alone.

They also saw a very busy RL20 foraging.

At another west side location they found Puka RP30.  He was on lower rocks alone. Wonder where big

brother Kai took off to?

They decided made the Ka'ena West trek and found the cute chubby RP84 Pe'ekai on the rocks alone.

Seems he is going to stay around for a while longer.

Further into Ka'ena West was RW02 PvKauai. He was in a shallow pond sound a sleep.

Team R&B decided to keep going. There were some folks that said there were seals further in. Just before the entrance to the point they found RL74 Kami. She was on the smaller rocks alone snoozing.

Waves got bigger and bigger hitting her, she tried to stay, flopped about and hung on laying there.
