Marilyn did attempt to view Rabbit Island but due to the heavy rain it didn't happen. 

Also we have an update on yesterdays Unknown Adult seen by Team R&B. Response from NOAA was the U/A is most likely R303 aka BG.

Team R&B had a quiet day. At their first stop they found two seals. First there was RL08 on high rocks. Off to the right was RM31 Kai.

The only other seal they found was at the bay. There alone was RH76 Kala who was sleeping on her back. While there a guy came by and took some photos, they recognized him as someone who often comes around.

March 12, 2024 Tuesday's Dailies

Marilyn did check Rabbit Island and I quote; " There is finally a day with sunshine and moderate winds and no Hawaiian Monk Seals to be seen"

ALSO and update to yesterday's post from Tammy.  In reference to Justin's sighting at Ka'ena Point, N1 is R420, who also has an N11 applied bleach. He moved before they could finish the 11. 

3CB is Squinty R330, he finally got tags 3CA/3CB.

Team R&B first find was at Kahe. Kalua RL20 was to the left on the rocks. He was resting and they were able to get a positive ID.   But then they found an Unknown Adult, no tags, scar on its head and back, and split hind flippers. They weren't able to see if it was a male or female.

Next stop at another west side location they found one seal. It was RM31 Kai alone resting up on the rocks.

They headed over to the bay and found Miss Kala RH76 to the left front area. She was alone in a pond resting. They waited an hour to see her applied bleach number to confirm her ID. Hopefully she just cooling off resting and doesn't plan on staying for long.

Last but not least they got to see many whales out and about along with all the boats.

March 11, 2024 Monday's Dailies

In yesterdays news department posse pals Justin & Christine made it out to Ka'ena Point. They spotted five seals on Sunday.

They saw a seal with a tag 3CB (new to me), it had an antenna (sat tag). This critter was hanging out with RP30 2 year old Puka.  They also saw TA68 who had a cookie cutter bite that looked like it might have been bleeding a little bit. There was another critter with N1

applied bleach close by.

Then there was R416 N10 in another tide pool.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:59 to 2:48 and there were four seals seen during that time. They're probably the same seals that were on Rabbit Island on Sunday.

Out on the rock flats of LPB was a seal labeled as Adult Male. Yesterday this seal was labeled Unknown Sub-adult 1. The A/M: adult size, sandy male belly and she did not see tags.

Down from 3BS was a Juvenile Female: larger juvenile size, light tan female belly and two red tags. The JF later move up into the dunes.

Up in the dunes among the morning glory between 3BS and SRI was an Adult Female: large adult size, older coat, tannish brown female belly and two red tags. 

The A/F was visited by the A/M. He nudged her several time and she changed her position, but never moved down out of the dunes. Ultimately the AM moved part way down the beach.

Near to the cliff behind SRI was an Unknown Sub-adult: sub-adult size, older coat, mottled ventral and two red tags. The US appear to have a darker scar, wound or pigment patch on its upper chest.

Team R&B's first stop they watched the dolphins out putting on quite a show, lots of jumping. 

They also witnessed the lifeguards on jet skis rescuing more than eight divers who got caught in the currents.

They did find Mr Kekoa Alii RK72 hauled out. He was alone and resting.

They spotted a seal high up on shore, so they headed over to find a big fat female R. They called the hotline and sent information on location. Team R&B stayed watching over R406 until noon. They made a zone with sticks and educated folks when they tried to get close up.  

They got a call about a large monk seal on shore at plains. They hurried over to find the very large marge RL12 Aukai. She was on she shoreline getting hit by waves. She moved up and you could see how really big she is. Big Mahalo to the lifeguards for keeping her safe and putting up a zone for her.

Team R&B went to check nimitz thinking they might find a seal out there. Sure enough R407 Kawika was there, and they had suspected he headed in a south west direction.  He was at Kermits Reef resting.
