Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B💕  In the yesterdays news department I got an email from posse pal Kathy O.

Kathy was at Ewa Beach on Sunday early morning and sat with a very large female seal. Kathy was told she had hauled out the night before.  The Unknown Female stayed all day, only moving down by the water in the afternoon. Then about 6 pm she moved back higher on shore. 

Kathy did check this morning and she was still there. She called the hotline to report that she had spent the night.

Team R&B got a text from a friend of five seals out by kahe, so they hurried over.  When they got there all five seals were in the water, lots of splashing, fighting going on and it was way too difficult to make any IDs from afar. Finally one hauled out at electric beach, it was RH32 Kaale.

They got another call of a seal hauling in near the shack at plains. They headed over and upon arriving they found the lovely Miss Aukai RL12.  She was resting and was in a very nice protection zone.

Heading back to kahe to check if other seals had arrived. There on the rocks were two more critters, RG28 Lefty and R407 Kawika.

At another west side location they found their last seal of the day. There was RM31 Kai alone resting up on high rocks.

Their day ended with lots of whales, they spotted at least four pods.

March 3, 2024 Sunday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:35 to 2:12 and there was only one seal seen during that time.

About 40 feet Lanikai side of SRI on water front rock flats was an Adult Female: adult size, light gray female belly, scar on mid-upper chest, unsure about tags. This seal hardly moved during her viewing session. Marilyn thinks this may be the same Adult Female seen on Friday.

Because there was only one seal to watch, Marilyn checked out the crater ridge for birds.

In their usual place on the middle of outer crater rim was a pair of Masked Boobies. Over on the

Lanikai side of the rim was a solo adult Masked Booby. She was gone when Marilyn did another check. Marilyn noted this was the first time she has seen three adult Masked Boobies on the island at the same time.

Team R&B was out this morning checking for seals. They only found one seal this morning, it was RM31 Kai.

Later going out to check they found RG28 Lefty on the rocks. They were able to see his red tag, no resin in the grooves but they knew it was RG28.

They saw another seal close by the rocks foraging. It had two big line scars on the left side of its body and adult size. They couldn't tell much else so it was reported as an Unknown Adult. A sailboat came and anchored off the rocks, let the tourist off to explore. As a result that was the last they saw the seal.

Lastly they stopped by plains and found a very large female RL12 Aukai. The lifeguards had put up zone around her keeping her safe.  Aukai has found a spot to be alone and away from the males pestering her.

Team R&B also got a chance to watch some dolphins.

They started their day at Kahe point and the place was packed with people, swimmers, divers and everything in between. Parking was a challenge, making it worse cars were getting tickets for parking outside the park.

Once they were able to get to the beach they found RG28 Lefty on the rocks. He was alone and looked like he had just hauled in. There was a tour group with a guide and swimmers to the right of him. Lefty was aware of the people in the area, but he stayed put.

Then they got a text of a seal on shore at the cove area. They could see there were orange cones up and a volunteer had just arrived. The volunteer did her best to get folks to move away from the seals, but it wasn't so easy especially with the divers coming in.  The seal was a big female R413 Makamae.

On the way back to the car they stopped to do a quick check on RG28. Good they did because there was another seal Mr. Kaale RH32.

At another west side location they found two seal on the rocks. There was R407 Kawika and to his right was RH76 Kala.  They were both resting and were undisturbed.

While in the area, Junior Sealette called out to Gramma there's a seal. They made a U turn and on the rocks in a small hole was R416.  Talk about good eyes! R416's applied bleach N10 was visible.  They did not stay for long since there are lots of homeless, and dogs.

March 1, 2024 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕  In yesterday's news department Tammy sent an update from Ka'ena Point.

Tammy went out to the point with Lesley on Thursday. Their first find was PvKauai RW02 and Holokai RG40 on the beach. There were both in the same area but not next to each other.

Next find at the point was R420 on the rocks and was an easy ID by his applied bleach. As they were hanging out a seal swam into the main pool, it was TA68 Lopaka. Lastly on the runway was R330 Squinty.

Along with the seals the whales were out putting on a show.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:48 to 2:59 and there were four seals seen during that time.

Between 1BS and 2BS was a Juvenile Female 1: larger juvenile size, light gray female belly and two red tags.

About 50 feet Makapuu of the 3BS was an Unknown Sub-adult: subadult size, light gray belly, two red tags. Marilyn believes this could be a female who was initially almost completely hidden behind water front rocks.

On the rock flats Lanikai side of SRI was an Adult Female: adult size, light gray female belly and at least one red tag. This seal also had some sort of a scar on mid-neck area.

Initially almost completely hidden in the SRI channel was Juvenile Female 2: juvenile size, light yellow female belly, unsure about tags. She hauled out of the channel about 2:14. This could possibly be RS36 Pualani who was seen on a nearby beach yesterday. 

Team R&B had appointments today so they had a late start. The only seal they found today was RG28 Lefty, who was alone and resting comfortably.

Although they didn't find many seals today, they were not disappointed due to the show the dolphins and whales put on today.
