Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:50 to 2:10 pm and there were six seals seen during that time. Marilyn was frustrated in that she wasn't able to make a positive ID on any.
Alone on LPB was an Unknown Adult 1: adult size, newer coat, gray ventral, no info on tags or sex. Marilyn noted the UA1 was near my favorite "seal" rock.
Between 1BS and 2BS was a Sub-adult Male: sub-adult size, newer coat, light male belly and two red tags.
About one-third of the way between 3BS and SRI was Unknown Adult 2: adult size, gray ventral, no info on tags or sex, in that there was only a head-on view.
Closer to SRI was a molting Adult Male: adult size, about 40% molted, gray male belly, unsure about tags.
Another 30 feet away was Unknown Adult 3: adult size, apparently dark coat, no info on sex or tags.
On the waterfront rocks between SRI and RRB was an Unknown Sub-adult: sub-adult size, gray ventral, unsure of sex, and two red tags.
Team R&B first spotted a seal at rest-camp from afar. They headed over and found R3CX Nalu up by the wall. He was probably up by the wall due to the big surf. There were signs up.
There was one woman close by taking videos. She stuck around by R3CX having a drink and a smoke. Apparently the signs didn't mean anything to her.
Next they headed over to yoks and were happy to find RP28 Wakea. This cute little guy from Kauai was resting onshore alone. There were no signs up.
They also found Lefty RG28 on shore. He was resting and tossing his head to the right. The hook is still there and he was probably moving about to toss the hook. RG28's molt is now 90% complete and he's looking good.
Then some folks arrived, one guy walked up to RG28, making noise to awaken him He got closer and closer and Lefty reacted. Team R&B called out to him, and spoke to his wife and friend about not disturbing the seal. They did not listen. At one point the guy walked closer kicking sand, RG28 leapt up and barked at the man, who though it was funny. What lasted about 15 minutes seemed like hours.
Needless to say Team R&B found themselves once again frustrated and helpless.
