12/11/2020 Friday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn and Team T&D.

Team T&D was out at Ka'ena Point yesterday and came across three seals and lots of albatross.  They first found Napua RK40 and PvKauai RW02. They were still together on their way out. Their other find was R330 Squinty.  They did see a group of people stopping to take pictures of the seals, good news they were all at a respectful distance. How refreshing!

Team Billand started their morning at the outfall. There were multiple seals foraging and fighting. They first ID'd Benny RE74 was in the corner on the right of outfall, foraging alone. He kept to himself.

Next was Kaale RH32 he was all over the place, stealing and foraging. He spent his time chasing after

the fish, you would think he would fill up.

Then there was Aukai RL12 stayed in mid section to the left side. They witnessed her eating some fish. Her 2 dings on head and mid shoulders were visible.

Team Billand spent their time watching over multiple critters in the outfall. They ID'd RN14 Kalani chasing fish like crazy, at times bugging Aukai. They actually caught his tag and his cue ball right side bleach.

The lovely RH36 Kawena was there. It took them a bit to ID her, but they spotted her scar from and earlier hooking.

After two plus hours they found Kaale hauled out at Tracks and he was alone. There were a few folks around and they did their best to educate.

A little earlier they had found Lefty RG28 at another west side location. He was mid high rocks and alone. He was snoozing but looked like he had recently hauled up. On a recheck he was still there and alone.

Team Billand took a break and was back out at 1 pm. They headed over to the bay and found multiple

critters. There was R3CX Nalu who was stuffing himself eating fish. Lei Ola RH48 was all over the bay, eating and swimming away from the males. They spotted RL20 Kalua sticking close to the front rocks, foraging. At times he would fo over and bug Lei Ola. RN44 was busy trying to keep up with Lei Ola (his girlfriend). They got into a spat, barking at each other face to face.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island today between 1 and 3 pm. There were ONLY three seals on island.

Two of them were together about 60 feet right side of the 1BS. An unidentified, subadult size, light yellowish female belly with two tags. (USAF). The other was an unidentified, subadult to adult size, light gray belly with 2 tags. (USA) Marilyn wasn't sure about sex, and thought it may have a NB on left rear side. If there was a bleach it could be RK37.

The other critter was about 30 feet left side of the 3BS. Unidentified juvenile size, yellowish female belly and two tags. (UJF) This female was to big to be one of the weaners and there was no applied bleach.
