12/15/2020 Tuesday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Lesley. Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Team Billand started their day at the bay. They first spotted Mr. Nalu R3CX foraging. While there they met up with someone from NOAA who was there to do some outreach. Team Billand filled her in on who the cast of characters.

Lei Ola RH48 was pigging out and was with RN44. They were together the entire time, foraging and no fighting.

Little RL20 Kalua came speeding by a few times and then would swiftly dive for more food. All the seals hung out further in the bay, a few times going close to the jetty.

A little after 10:30 at another west side location they found RH76 Kala. She was alone at the seal inlet

snoozing and stretching. Thankfully she made her tag visible long enough to get an ID. She is looking healthy no new markers.

Team Billand spent from 11:30 to 1 pm at Tracks.  RN14 Kalani and R407 were on shore snoozing and there were lots of folks out swimming, walking in front of them to get to a turtle. One dude's umbrella flew towards the seals several times. In other words it was a zoo, of course Team Billand called the hotline and left a message, and actually called another time.

Then Ka'ale RH32 arrived, as he was trying to haul out people rushed the shoreline. Team Billand did their best not to yell but sometimes you can't help it. They finally got people to back away long enough Kaale was able to haul out and headed towards R407 and RN14. He stayed by them with some grumbling. Team Billand once again made a makeshift zone to provide some distance between the people and the three seals.

Next they found Aukai RL12 sleeping and okay for the time being. Someone had put a single sign up in the hill. By 1 pm Team Billand was worn out by the nonsense so they left the area. They don't know if any volunteers came later.
