7-4-2014 DB's Dailies:

I hope everyone had a happy 4th of July out there amongst the hordes at the beach !

At 0754 I found Sadie (RB12) at the left end of the beach on Rabbit Island. On a routine pan at 0926 I was surprised to see that she was gone. This marks the first time since her newest arrival on 6-29 that she departed in my presence. Foraging would have to be high on her list of things to do. On my 1609 recheck, Sadie had returned as was alone out on the left end rock flats, while Kolohe & Pua were together at the left end of the beach.

At 0839 Marilyn called with the report of an animal doing 10-12 minute dives at Spitting Cave. Her shots would confirm the Kolohe (RW22) ID. Unfortunately, he was run off by one of the dive tours. The divers were right on top of him and he came up prematurely, and let out a bellow. He was pissed ! He was gone at 0904.

At 0948 I found Pua (RF34) snoozin’ on the water front rocks , 80 ft right of 3BS on RI. At 1211 Kolohe (RW22) hauled out to the far left end of the beach on Rabbit Island. ID was by his right side NB.

At 0714 Team Billand called with the report of 2 foraging animals off shore of Makaha Beach. Photos confirmed on as Nihoa (R912). The other remains an U/U, but a male is of course a distinct possibility.

At 1041 THE Donna called with a report of an animal at Moku Nui. At 1119 my DOCARE Posse member Ken called to advise that he and his wife were out there and confirmed the Aukai (RL12) by tag.

At 1052 Ocean Safety called with a report of 2 animals at Nanakuli Beach Park. The Billands would confirm the Pohaku (RO28) & Benny (RE74) ID at 1125. I heard the names of Terri, Charles, Trudy & Diane T associated with the haul out. To any and all who served today, Thank You.........Very Much !!

Dana called at 1434 with a report of Right Spot (R016) at Right Spot’s Spot, Kaihalulu Beach, Turtle Bay .

Last but not least, on this date , one year ago we were hot & sweaty and building fence for Irma (R010) & her new son, Kea(RN46). Today was a much easier day. Yes..... Kea turns 1 year old today!! Auntie Gayle even provided a Kea Kake ! Kea did not show up for the celebration.

Many thanks to all who came to help in Nanakuli yesterday with Pohaku and Benny.

To Robert, Diane T. Terri, Charles and Trudy...and last of all to Glen, Vera and Eric too. The lifeguards took the signs when they left. Glen had nothing to keep the seals safe.

Dana called us for help, we dashed over and brought the signs as soon as we could. Stayed one hour with the cobers...it was tuff out there and there were many children..adults. But some how all of us got through, another tuff day with the crowds and two seals. God bless you all..you are sooooooo appreciated for sticking it out.

And to Pohaku and Benny YOU ARE LUCKY WE GAVE YOU THAT SMALL SPACE TO SLEEP...now move on to a better area..PLEASE. TOO CROWDED at Nanakuli.

I am sure they will show up at KoOlina ... maybe today...HELP!!!
