1-11-2014 DB's Dailies: Kaiwi@SC, Kolohe,Kainoa,Mojo,RK36&Aukai@RI, Makaiwi,RIP&Buster@WP, RIP@KCG, Rocky@KK, R5AY&P,La'akea@TB, Ka'ena,Kerby&RW02@KP, Luana@Mokuleia

At 0845 I found Kaiwi (RK96), doing 7 minute dives at Spitting Cave. She showed normal foraging behavior, and I could see no visible swelling on the right side of her face. Since I know the hook to be totally inside her mouth I was not surprised to see no evidence of a hook. In the same area I also saw my first ever Manta Ray ! (WOW she swallowed a Manta Ray ?? LOL sorry couldn't resist DB)

My first look at Rabbit Island had been a bust, however when I got back to Makai Pier at 1018 I found a bumper crop of critters. Kolohe (RW22) was on the left end rock flats. I found Mojo (RI17)&Kainoa (RN04) together at 3BS, and RK36 with Aukai (RL12) at Seal Rock Inlet. Mojo&Kainoa would be run off by a surfer draining water from his over turned kayak near their location at 1042. They would both haul out to Seal Rock Inlet at 1132. RK36 would move down to greet Mojo&Kainoa when they arrived and then hauled out, 70 ft right of 3BS at 1112.

At 0735 Team Billand reported Makaiwi (R4DF) on the Ewa Beach side of the east end, White Plains, perimeter fence. Thanks to volunteer Angel’s shots, it appears that RIP (RR70) stopped by for a short visit to Makaiwi. Being rebuffed he would continue on winding up at Kalaeloa Campgrounds.

At 1114 Marilyn called from the end of the world , with the report of RW02, Kerby (RW08) & Ka’ena (RO40) at the main pool, Ka’ena Point. She also reported Luana (RN58) at the birth beach, Mokuleia, on her back.

At 1428 Team Billand reported Pohaku (RO28) at Electric Beach.

At 1503 the Billands found RIP (RR70) at Kalaeloa Campgrounds.

Kokee posse person Linda called at 1751 to report Rocky (RH58) in her backyard. A masterpiece of great timing also brought a call from Colleen as I was talking with Linda, advising that her daughter was surfing at China Walls, near Kokee, and called Mom to report a seal . The posse is a wonderful thing !!

The Billands reported Buster (RV08) at #1760, White Plains at 1800. A witness said he hauled out at 1745.

Lesley compiled a video of her stills taken over the last 3 days on R5AY pupping watch. Enjoy ! Posted separately amazing thank you lesley.
