10-1-2012 North Shore Seals

Hi Everyone,

Karen Turner and I took the last 2 shifts following Karen Rohter today at TB. They were hauled out sound asleep when we arrived. At about 2:20pm the pup roused and woke mom. She tried to call the pup in for a swim but the pup turned the other direction and started away from her up the slope. R5AY tried for about 20 minutes calling to the pup. You can see the pup replying to her a couple of times in the photos but most of the time she just ignored her. The pup won this battle but R5AY snuck up on her and scared her when she snorted at her. They never did go back into the water.

I went to check on La'akea who was snoozing at the bend or elbow beach. At 3:20pm I caught Right Spot hauling out on the Kahuku side.
