12/26/2010 DB Dailies

It was yet another wet and wild day at Makai Pier. The Makapuu Notch cranked the south winds up into the 40+ mph range. The Rabbit Island cast began with M38 and Buster snoozin' together up in the grass to the right of 3BS at 0720 . I found Duke also up in the grass at Seal Rock Inlet at 0740. When I got back to the pier at 0900, Duke was gone.

On a routine pan at 1021 I found Sam , once again just moving into view from behind the sand dune , 40 ft left of 1BS. This was his 3rd day there.

At 1054 a gang of 3 all hauled out together at Seal Rock Inlet at the right end of the beach. It would prove to be Duke, Kolohe and Sadie. The whole cast remained there all day

Team Billand checked in at 0810 with the report of Kermit fronting #1707/08 at White Plains. At 1002 they called again to say that Benny had hauled out to join him.

Kermit was alone, enjoying the peace and quiet of the morning. Then we spotted BENNY, coming from Ewa Beach direction, heading towards Kermit. He was looking, bobbing up and down, while swimming. But he didnt seem to see Kermit way up near a tree and passed Kermit. He passed the perimeter, but, seemed to see the sign, went up to it, looked, thought about it as if he knew Kermit would be in that perimeter. He hauled up higher, then saw Kermit, as if to say"THERE YOU ARE!!" Went through the ropes, paused, checked out the situation, then hauled up to Kermit, who was peeking through one eye, at what Benny was doing. Benny did his nose dive into the sand, Kermit with his head up, watching. Benny then snorted, Kermit did back..It was like Benny said, Im staying here, you stay there, all will be fine. And Kermit went..."FINE". Both boys stayed a seal apart all day long. Some folks came by, talking reallly loud..Benny looked directly at them, snorted..."HEY..QUIET!!! MONK SEALS HERE..SLEEPING..EXCUSE ME??" But the folks didnt get it and kept at it. After they left, we put this sign out.."Hawaiian Monk Seals sleeping. THEY DONT SPEAK ENGLISH. SO DONT YELL AT THEM. THEY DONT YELL AT YOU. Have a nice day. THANKS! Flipper Hugs. We come in PEACE!!!" Folks came by, read the sign, NOBODY else yelled at the seals after that. He. He. Simple...huh? So the boys at the Plains, had a long nice nap, they didnt mind the wind and rain. We had a great day ourselves.
