Hi,
Here is a photo of the Ocean Awareness Graduation Class at Haunama Bay this morning. It isn't a good picture, but, each person was proud of their deplomas which were given out by Christine Brammer and Liz Mukabe. Allan Hong gave an excellent speech which was interesting to see how eveyone is pulling together to keep Haunama Bay a Nature Park for all to enjoy.
The Ocean Awareness class covered 6 classes, twice a week at the Sanctuary and a field trip to various beaches and workshops. One class was held at the Aquarium which was fun.
Topics covered were Marine Debris by Carey Morishige, Sea Turtles by Regina Rudrud, Marine Mammals of Hawaii by David Schofield, Humpback whales by Ed Lyman, Hawaiian Culture. Other classes were Native Hawaiian relationship to the Kai and the Ahupua'a by Hi'ilani Shibata, Sea Level Rise and Coastal Zone Management by Dolan Eversole, Coral Reef Biology and Ecology by Dr. David Krupp and Water Quality Issues by Dr. Bob Richmond, Common Reef Fishes and Invertebrate Id by Jeff Kuwabara.
Thanks to all who spoke we thank you for your time and knowledge, we have all learned alot. It was fun!
