Mojo,RIP&Kolohe@RI, 2AW&Irma at Kahe, Kermit&Benny@WP, Ewa Girl@CIP, 12-2-08
The SW winds were once again crankin' through the Makapuu notch, so while the rest of the world at 15 mph winds, the pier was 20-40 easily. There was no way to hold the scope still, but I did manage to identify the cast. The first pass was a bust but when I got back to the pier at 1015 I found Mojo by himself at the left end, and initially found RIP, partially visible up in a the Morning Glory , 20 ft right of the 3rd Blue Sign (3BS). At 1105 another came into view right along side RIP and when he rolled over I saw that transmitter and bleach mark. It was Kolohe. Everybody would move down to cool off, but remained in their respective locations. There was no observed interaction.
That cast of characters alone would have been a good day, but Team Billand went nutz today. At 1038 they called in 2AW at Kahe, and just a few moments later came the call that Irma was lying 10 ft away !
At 1124 they reported the Kermit and Benny were at White Plains, and that Kermit has begun his molt.
Lastly, came the call at 1258 reporting that Ewa Girl was at her favorite spot (After Hanauma Bay of course), at Campbell Industrial Park.
I spoke with Tracy , briefly this afternoon. She said that someone (she couldn't recall who, reported Kerby at Ka'ena Point in the last few days. Joanna had gone out on Sunday and didn't see anyone, so I don't know who sent in the sighting, but its still good to get Kerby info.
Everybody drawing a Monk Seal paycheck in the U.S.A is at the Recovery Team Meetings at Ala Moana Hotel. I wonder how many animals hauled out there today ???????
