April 12, 2025 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:30 to 1:35 pm and there was some big news today!
PO3 is here. When Marilyn first starting viewing she saw MO3 (Mom Oahu) had given birth sometime since she left at 2 pm on Friday afternoon. Marilyn believes MO3 is RB12 Sadie but per NOAA's request she will be referred to as MO3 until we have confirmation. PO3 is active and moved around Mom several times and did various flipper flexes. Its possible part of the umbilical cord shows in one of the photos.
The other pregnant female, who Marilyn believes to be RF34 Pua had relocated from near the 2BS to the 3BS side of Middle Cliff. She is definitely pregnant with nipples showing. Marilyn did see her rear right side scar and at least one red tag.

Team R&B's first stop they found the lovely Miss Kala RH76 just hauling up at seal inlet.
They looked her over and she seems to be okay. She suddenly perked up and one of the guys from the camp was on the rocks walking around. He didn't bother her at all and she settled back in.
They had been on site for a while and didn't realize there was another seal.  They noticed him and noted he had lots of scratches, and they couldn't be sure of its ID. He was very interested in Miss Kala.
When they got home they studied the photos and discovered it was R3CU. All his scratched, the bleach on left flipper.

They headed over to Kahe and were watching the dolphins. Then out of nowhere with all the swimmers, divers, a seal popped up. It was moving fast. They determined it was an adult with tags, with a greenish coat.  He swam by all the people with ease and with no
hesitation. He was on a mission, heading straight to the outfall area. The seal was reported an Unknown Adult.

Last stop at the cliffs they spotted a seal hidden in the rocks. They had nothing to work with other than it had tags and adult size.  At one point the show its flipper and they couldn't tell if its nail was white. Feeling frustrated they couldn't make the ID. Another Unknown Adult.

April 11, 2025 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B 💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:55 to 2:05 pm and there were three seals seen during that time.
Initially near the water on LPB was the Pregnant Adult Female: large adult size, older coat, unsure about tags, At first Marilyn only saw her back and wondered if there was a pup on her ventral side. There was not.  Marilyn still believes this to be RB12 Sadie.
Near the 2BS was another pregnant adult female that Marilyn in 99% sure is RF34 Pua: large adult size, tan coat, female belly with popped nipples, two red tags and scar o her right rear side.

About 30 feet Makapuu of the 3BS was an Unknown Adult: adult size, and at least one red tag. Marilyn never saw the seal's ventral so it was reported as an U/A. She suspects this is an adult female that has been on island lately.

In yesterday's news, I forgot one of Team R&B's emails. They were on their way home when they came across RP30 Puka. He was on the rocks resting alone.

Team R&B had an appointment today so they started early but there were no seals to be found.
By the time they got back they check out Kahe and found two seals: RM31 Kai and R617.
They hung out for quite awhile hoping there more seals, but no others showed up.
Despite their checking all the usual spots there were no other seals found today.
When they rechecked Kahe only R617 remained.

April 10, 2025 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Tammy and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 10:00 to 10:45 am and then again at 3:00 to 3:48 pm.
Ultimately there were four seals seen on island today.
In the morning there were initially two seals:
Up next to the naupaka before the 2BS was a pregnant adult female, which Marilyn believes to be Pua RF34: large adult size, older tan coat, pregnant female belly, at least one tag, and a scar on the right rear side. She moved down to the waterline and then started back up the incline when Marilyn was leaving in the morning.
There was an Unknown Juvenile near the waterline  between 3BS and SRI: juvenile to small sub-adult size, unsure about sex or tags. At 10:16 am Marilyn noticed this seal had left and did not return during her viewing session.
When Marilyn returned at 3pm, a pregnant Adult Female was hauled out on LPB: large adult size, older dark coat female belly and lighter area around nipples, unsure about tags. This is probably Sadie and the same UA as yesterday.
Note of interest: RB12 Sadie was born on Rabbit Island to RS00 Ewa Girl in April of 2007.  Sadie is the mother of RF34 Pua who was born on Rabbit Island in April of 2014.  So if the both pup, there will be mother and daughter both having pups close together.... not to mention Pua's pup will be Sadie's grandpup.

Tammy met up with Lesley at the point. It was a slow people day which always make it better. There were lots of wedgies in burrows and albatross chicks starting to get their adult feathers.
In the seal world it was a boys day today. First find was Holokai RG40 on the runway. Next there was RG32 resting on the rocks. Last but not least was an untagged male on the beach. They watched and took pics from all sides, but just couldn't make a positive ID.

Team R&B arrived at pokai and saw a seal foraging. They watched for
a while and finally determined it was R3CX Nalu. He stayed out in the open ocean and never landed.
They shared a photo of a beautiful native flower. Sadly they found a deceased shearwater on the coral.

Their only other find was at Kahe. The boys were all resting peacefully.  There was RK72 Kekoa Alii, RG32 Lefty in the pond, and RL20 Kalua.
