July 28, 2025 Yesterday's Rabbit Island Update

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island on Sunday from 12:07 to 2:33 pm and there five seals seen on island.
The big news of the day was that both PO11 and PO12 have been weaned.  The mpms must have left sometime between late Thursday afternoon to sometime Sunday morning.  Marilyn couldn't be sure which new weaner is which, but she decided to label the weaner that was out on the reef flats Lanikai side of LPB as PO11 the the other weaner that hauled out in the middle of LPB as PO12.
At 1:30 pm, PO11 was near the LPB channel on the rock flats. Later PO11 moved further up the reef flat and later showed off his male belly.
At 1:07 pm, PO12 hauled out in the middle of LPB, proceeded to play with
some rocks and other debris on the beach and ultimately went into snooze mode. PO12 briefly entered the water again and hauled out a short time later near the 1BS.
At 2:05 pm what Marilyn assumes to be either RU24 or RU38 hauled out of the LPB surge channel and moved up shore. Marilyn never saw the belly so it was reported as an Unknown Weaner. The weaner has lost a lot of its pup far.
When Marilyn started viewing there were two seals on the water front rocks near 3BS.
Adult Female: adult size, new coat, gray female belly and two red tags. This seal left the 3BS area at 12:55 pm and then hauled out near the 2BS. Later the AF returned to the 3BS area.
The other seal on the waterfront rocks was a Juvenile Female: juvenile size, older coat, female belly and two red tags. This seal entered the water near the 3BS area and later hauled out of the SRI channel.
