July 19, 2025 Saturday's Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:05 5o 2:56 pm and there were seven seals seen during that time.
RH76 Kala and PO11 and RL12 Aukai and PO12 were all on the middle back of LPB. For the first hour of viewing Kala and her pup were hidden behind Aukai and PO!2. Marilyn was able to confirm Aukai's ID by the red tag on her RRF. PO12 male, headed away from mom several time, but always returned to her. Marilyn saw very little activity from Kala and PO11 male partly because they were further
back on the beach. This is probably the last week with mom for both pups.   NOAA is going to have fun figuring out which male is PO11 and which is PO12.
On the 3BS side of Middle Cliff was a Juvenile Female: juvenile size, light tan female belly with some green and two red tags.
Between 3BS and SRI was weaner RU24: weaner size shape , a light yellow male belly and two red tags.
Out on RRB was weaner RU38: weaner size and shape, light yellow female belly and two red tags.
Marilyn finally saw a chick with one of the Masked Boobies.  She has been following what appeared to be nesting on the outer crater rim. The chick looks older than a newly hatched.

Team R&B first stop was at pokai where they talked to some friends and watched the dolphins. After about an hour they heard a seal and it took them awhile to find it. The seal came into the inlets looking, cruiser mode. There was a guy standing at one of the inlets so the seal left. They were able to ID the seal as Nalu R3CX.

At another west side location they saw a male sleeping alone on the rocks. They couldn't be sure of its ID, at first they thought maybe R416. They did note he has a lot of CC scars.

Next they headed over to plains to check on our molting lady. Miss Lei Ola RH48 is about 60% into her molt. She'll look so pretty once she's finished. There were lots of folks on shore today, but Lei Ola remained, today makes three weeks she been hanging out there.  Team R&B were told that a male seal was with her earlier but left before they arrived.

From there they headed back to the west side and found two seals at yoks.  There was RL42 Leia with male R416 Makalii. (don't know if this was the same male they saw earlier.)

As they were passing Makaha they saw folks running along the shore taking pictures. So they pulled over and went to check. Because the people were along the shoreline the seal wasn't able to haul out. Team R&B saw the seal went by the housing and then landed. They saw the scar on the right side of its head. The seal didn't stay and took off.
Team R&B drove to another spot and waited for the seal. Sure enough when they spotted the seal they called out to the people in the water
that the seal was coming. No one moved and the seal swam pass, one man yelled to move away and let the seal land.
The seal went to the left corner, they were able to ID RN14 Kalani as they saw his cue ball bleach on right side and his scar on his head.
Kalani entered the shallows, rolling around, people stayed close. RN14 dove down and was gone.
