Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:11 to 2:59 pm and there were seven seals seen during that time.
When Marilyn arrived RH76 Kala and PO11 were having a nursing session on the Lanikai side of LPB. Mom and pup seem healthy and doing fine.
At 1:26 pm, RL12 Aukai and PO12 hauled out onto LPB after a swim. RL12 was ID'd by her two red flipper tags. Aukai and PO12 moved up the beach. It appears that Kala decided to move further up the beach to move away from Aukai and pup. PO12 had a long nursing session. Both mom and pup look healthy.
Later the pups moved behind their moms leaving only Kala and Aukai visible.
At 1:15 pm a seal hauled out in the 3BS vicinity. The seal moved up into the dunes about 50 feet Makapuu of the 3BS. The seal is the same Adult Female that was reported yesterday. She now is about 20% molted. Marilyn thinks she saw at least one tag when she galumphed up the dunes. Later she moved back down onto the beach.
When Marilyn first started viewing, she found that one of the weaners was hauled out near the RRB channel. At 2:00 pm, the other weaner hauled out next to the first weaner. Marilyn later decided the first weaner was RU38 when she finally showed her female belly. The second weaner to arrive was RU24. Both seem to be doing fine, but getting a little thinner. It was nice to see them together.
Team R&B headed over to plains where there were lots of people and the Access Surf group. There were the two love birds RH48 Lei Ola and RH32 in a zone.
The seals were pretty much snoozing even with all the noise. There was lots of cheering for the folks with disabilities catching the waves. There were moments Team R&B felt emotional for how good the access surf crew are with the surfers. They give people a chance to enjoy the ocean.
Around 11:30, Kaale entered the water and stuck around watching for Lei Ola. She turned and moved up the shore and he came right back at her.
At one of their stops they saw a seal from far away. The seal was at Makua Beach, and it was just too hot to walk all the way out there. So they reported the seal as an Unknown Unidentified.
Just as a side note I would like to wish Robert a very Happy Birthday which is officially on Sunday the 13th.
