Team Billand checked in at 0658 with the report of an animal at Secrets. At 0718 they confirmed the Pohaku (RO28) ID. She departed at 1600.

A DanaTxt at 1218 advised that RI37 was sighted and ID’d by tag, in Punaluu. Thanks to Robin Minton for the shot.

A DanaTxt at 1418 reported Right Spot (R016), at Turtle Bay.
(This is a short and sweet post.... first time in a long time there has been so little to post.)

For the first time in weeks, we couldnt find, HAUPU RB24, That Kauai seal that was pregnant and lost her pup. Rob Warren and I searched together..she wasnt any where.

Got a call of a seal at Secrets. Mr Warren and I took off to see who it was. Miss Sung signed POHAKU off.

Warren and I put the zone up and left an informational sign for visitors. We both educated folks best we could.

Rob went to town to get OLIVIA.

Warren and I talked about who should go search for Haupu. It was agreed that Warren would stay with Pohaku at Secrets...I went to look for HAUPU.

Well Warren took care of Haupu all day himself, no help for him. He left a little while..returned and reported Pohaku left at 4pm. Thanks Warren..your long hours were appreciated.

For me, I went from Lagoon to lagoon on foot, looking. I had contact with the swimmer who daily does his thing, swimming. We got to talking, he sees us daily trying to protect Haupu. Well, today he joined me in looking, he in water, me on land. It was cool to do this..a total stranger, WHO CARED enough to help me.

By time I got out to the last area..the Marina, the swimmer gave up and went back to his routine, BUT I AM GREATFUL FOR HIM.

I studied each rock formation in the Marina, looking for the dome of Haupu, she wasnt there either.

I sat at the Jetty looking towards Marisco, where Makaiwi went when she was in Marina for 17 days, with her horrific injury. Still nothing. I said my prayers for Haupu, where ever she may be...I then walked back on the jetty studying each spot that I saw in the ocean along the coast..most of the spots..TURTLES.

Walked back to Lagoon four, sat there, resting my old legs, thinking, WHERE DID SHE GO. Olivia arrived with Rob. We talked. I told her how Haupu lost her pup, she listened. I showed her the pup in the net...she glared at it with a sweet look. Olivia said, Grandma, I have super powers, I will take care of Haupu if we find her. I will protect her Grandma. She sat with me on shore, looking too.

It took five minutes of looking, she met a little friend walking on shore with HER GRANDMA. They got to be friends, started playing..Olivia's search was .. OVER. Thats ok.

I checked in with Warren all was good. Still no relief for him..sorry.

Long story short, Haupu was not seen for the first time..and it hurt not to find and protect her.

We even took Olivia home, then went back and did another search..nothing. SO...we went Leeward.

We did spot one other seal..L42 on the rocks, snoozing. She is grown up now, didnt recognize her. Thank goodness for tags that was shining in the sun to read!!!

We continued our search back to Maili..talked to the homeless guys we befriended, asking about Haupu. We told them of her ABORTED FETUS. They were shocked.

So the day was over, Olivia safe back home, we were done with our HAUPU search, by 4:30pm We gave up.

I hope she is ok, maybe going home like her last sons passing...to Kauai. Sorry Haupu..be safe, we will continue to find you.

Thank you so much for taking such loving care of the seals as you find them. I hope you are able to rest after such difficult days.
