3/10/2015 DB's Dailies: Kaiwi@SC, Kaiwi&Kekoa@TBL, U/U@RI, Benny@Kaimana Bch, Haupu@KoOlina, Nihoa@Maipalaoa, RIP@ Maili Point

My first look at Rabbit Island at 0716 was a bust, and I didn’t get for a second check until 1314. At that time I saw a barely visible animal amongst the rocks at the far left end of the beach. No ID was possible, and it was total waste of pixels to try to get a meaningless shot.

Ast 0816 I found Kaiwi (RK96) doing 6 minute dives at Spitting Cave. I would lose her at the ladder at 0910.

She would pop up in my life again at 1053 when I got a call from Hanauma Bay Security posse member Jaime, reporting the arrival of 3 animals at Toilet Bowl. When I got down there at 1120, alas there were only 2 animals, which would prove to be Kaiwi (RK96) and Kekoa (RK72). Jaime said the small animal with them just couldn’t get up out of the toilet bowl, and it departed. Thankfully, he shots showed a definite Kea (RN46) as the 3rd animal.

Mark Sullivan came and called at 1504 to say that he’d gotten a bleach on Kaiwi.

Most of the day was spent on the Benny Quest, with no luck until Ocean Safety called at 1443 to advise of an animal at Kaimana Beach. Karen Rohter’s excellent shots confirm the Benny (RE74) ID. He remains at dark.

Team Billand called at 1015 to advise that Haupu (RB24) was floating in the KoOlina Marina Channel. Boat traffic was having to negotiate around her. She would depart that location at 1027 , and relocate to Lagoon #4.

At 1140 the Billands had gotten word of an animal in the Maipalaoa Canal, with people throwing .( ?? throwing up? throwing themselves off a bridge? throwing their trash out the window?.... sorry DB i couldn't resist)  When they arrived there was on one around, and Nihoa (R912) was snoozin’ on the bank of the canal.

At 1249 they discovered RIP (RR70) snoozin’ at Maili Point.

This just warms my heart... Kaiwi and Kekoa hanging out together... a whole new generation growing up
and here come Kea.... so sad he couldn't make it up but so cute he was trying to hang out with them
