Marilyn called at 0805 with the report of an animal doing 6 minute dives, at Spitting Cave. Getting decent shots was nearly impossible given the overcast , rainy conditions this morning, however she was able to get a few shots that would later established that it was Buster (RV08).
The ID became possible when posse member , Trish called from China Walls advising that an animal had just arrived. Marilyn responded and confirmed the Buster (RV08) ID. We were able to match is markers to the SC animal.
At 0805 I found an animal snuggled up to the log, in the Morning Glory, 40 ft left of IBS. It would prove to be Kaiwi (RK96). She was at this same location yesterday. ID was by her natural bleach on top of her head.
Though the Billands were wearing their Whale hats today (2nd Whale Count for 2015), they did manage to call 0649 to advise that they had received word that Benny (RE74) was still at Lagoon#4, KoOlina. Dana would call later with the same news.
At 1005 Dana called with the report of an animal reported at the Hawaiian Princess condos. Dana would later confirm the Pohaku (RO28) ID.
Vera Cober checked in at 1202, on the family’s way back from R5AY&Pup duty. Her photos are, of course, outstanding. She had actually called to say that they were with an animal at Laniakea. Her description sounded like KC, and sure enough when the shots came in it was in fact KC (RK28). She is the usual mass of scars, but I was surprised to see that her newest, a CC wound above her left eye, which was fresh when last seen a while back, has now healed with just a partial CC scar. Thanks Vera, Ya’ Done Good !!!
At 1707 the Billands reported finding Kolohe (RW22) at Maili Point.
