6-17-2013 DB's Dailies:Kaiwi,Aukai,Kainoa&M38@RI, Buster@SC&SB, M&M@KCG, Ka'ena&Kerby@KP

Kimo called at 0653 with the report of what would prove to be Buster (RV08) at Spitting Cave. He was still there when I departed SC at 0900.

On my 2nd look at Rabbit Island at 0932 I found Kaiwi (RK96) and Aukai (RL12) together on the rubble rocks of Rocky Right Beach.

At 0943 their peace and tranquility came to an end with the arrival of M38. Kaiwi wouldn't take any of his guff, but he managed to harass Aukai into the water. I lost M38 after that and did not see him again today.

To my shock, on a routine pan to the right tip of the island I found Aukai galumphing on the rubble rocks, 100 yds east of RRB, just past the 3 caves. She would remain there the rest of the day.

There always has to be that 1st day that a weaner is not seen. I thought today was going to be that day for Kainoa (RN04) and I, but fortunately on a 1730 recheck of RI I found Kainoa at the far left end of the beach.

At 1109 the anticipated Ocean Safety call came, reporting an animal just hauling out at Sandy Beach. For the 4th consecutive day , upon arrival at 1120, I found Buster (RV08) fronting Pipe Littles break at SB. I cordoned him off, and he has remained the rest of the day. Buster departed at 1853.
At 0848 Team Billand reported M&M (R020) at Kalaeloa Campgrounds.

Email from Karen Bryan this afternoon, from their vacation on Kauai, brought the wonderful news that while they were out on dive boat off shore of Niihau, yesterday, they encountered "N4", Kermit (R012). The Billands and I have been talking about the possibilty that Kermit was off on his annual NW trip, but there is always that element of doubt. Happily, Kermit is on his annual vacation. I know this is going to make Barb very very happy that fat boy has been located.... although with all that traveling he probably lost a few.....

Email from MolokaiDi, brought news of the 7th Molokai pup, as of yesterday.

Tracy sent word that Mark had gone to Ka'ena Pt today to assess Ka'ena's (RO40) hook situation. He reported finding only the small visible hook on the outside of the lower lip. He saw no other line or hooks in the mouth. While there he also found Kerby (RW08) 10 ft away from Ka'ena.

 Buster at Sandys
 crowd of adoring fans
 Dude is on the move
 coughing or roaring?
 open wide....!
 MM among some sand castles
looks like this dude is walking straight ahead.... might just be the angle... but often times people are truely unaware of their surroundings.

No the guy was aware the seal was there. We were on our toes as he seemed to want to go up to the seal with a BEER in hand and his cell phone. BUT...I guess when the bunch of folks arrived at the same time and Rob and I were right there, the guy had a change of plan. He just seemed....too fast and like he had a mission, NOT TO NOTICE HIM. Glad he moved on and left the seal alone.

I dont know why M and M continues to take this area as her basking zone. Too many fishermen, surfers, DOGS, of all kinds, many of them...LOOSE. There is a bunch of different sea weed on shore here that smells really bad.

We stay with her most of the day, its just not a good spot here.

And for once she wasnt visited by any horny males yesterday. So she got some good ZZZZ's.

KERMIT!!!!!!!! Kermit, how come you didnt call home????? We been worried about your where abouts...THANKS KAREN AND HUBBY!!!!! I am so glad you spotted him, it is comforting to know...he is OK. Be safe FAT BOY, we will see ya in August or September. I LOVE GOOD NEWS WITH MONK SEALS...it feels so good.

Yesterday a lady walked up to M and M, slowly, inch by inch and then I couldnt help it, I HAD TO SAY...AH, could you not go up to the seal like that????? OH she says, someone told me...AS LONG AS YOU DONT DISTURB THE SEAL, YOU CAN GO UP TO IT FOR A BETTER PHOTO. WHAT???? WHO TOLD YOU THAT?

NOT FOR US LADY...the signs and ropes are up for a reason..to protect YOU and the seal..take your photos from BEHIND the ropes, PLEASE. And if someone else sees you in there, they will ALL THINK, oh its ok to do that. NOPE. Be respectful please, we would appreciate it. So the lady took her photos, for her grand kids back home...then she went back to the surf school, HAPPY.
