6-8-2013 DB's Dailies: Kainoa@RI, Kaiwi&RK36@BF, R912@KP, Haupu@Laniakea, M&M@KCG, R5AY@Hauula, Irma@EB, Buster@Waikiki

Big Island seal lady, Cameron McDonald spent the morning with me on the rounds of the SE Quadrant. Fortunately, she got to see a coupla' critters. (Happy she connected with you DB.... and she got to see some critters!)

At 0720 we found Kaiwi (RK96) still on Buster Flats. She had very probably overnighted. New posse member Janice & her friends provided a shot confirming that RK36 had been there with her at 0638, but departed around 0700. I did not see him again today. Kaiwi was still there on the mid day and 1500 rechecks. There were toooooo many people wandering the flats today, many getting too close to Kaiwi, but she managed to remain.
On the 2nd look at Rabbit Island at 1015 we found Kainoa (RN04), 80 ft right of 1BS. He would be the only RI resident today.

Marilyn & Lesley did their usual Ka'ena Pt trek. Thankfully, the ran into R912 halfway in on the Waianae side trail. She was still there on their way out. Sadly, they were skunked at the end of the world.

Dana would call at 0928 with the report of what would prove to be Haupu (RB24) at Lanaikea. This is her first documented trip to the North Shore. Photos from Robin Dazzeo confirmed the Haupu ID.

At 1038 Dana called with the report of an animal at the Kalaeloa Campgrounds. Team Billand would confirm the M&M (R020) ID at 1241.

At 1114 Dana called with the report of an animal in Hauula. Karen Turner responded but the animal was off shore in the shallows, and did not haul out. Karen's photos were inconclusive, but in part 2 of the Hauula story, Cianna called at 1457 with the new report of an animal in Hauula, and the R5AY ID was confirmed.

Dana called at 1830 to advise that volunteer Sandra reported that R5AY was very close to the road. David Schofield was enroute to the scene to check the situation.
At 1217 Team Billand reported Irma (R010) in Ewa Beach.

Posse member Christian called at 1206 with the report of "N21", Buster (V08) in the near shore waters between the Natatorium and the Aquarium. Though he nearly hauled out a few time, he never actually did, and was last seen further off shore heading east. Christian's excellent shots most certainly confirm the Buster ID.
