Yesterday we were told, Benny had tried to haul out at Plains FENCELINE. BUT...silly folks got too close and he left that spot...only to haul out right at the Tower One location, with the Lifeguards stand, maybe 12 feet away. It was so cute to see him there, trying to snooze and the Lifeguards in the Tower, watching him. Well, I guess Benny knows the Lifeguards would look out for him. He would be safe there. These poor seals, day after day, they keep moving from one spot to the next, hoping to find a place of PEACE to REST. And when they dont get the rest, if its too noisey, or people come too close, they move on. Not even R.I. is a safe spot ALL THE TIME, its kind of sad that seals deal with this every day of their lives. We had to leave Benny, had to check on Kermit at Windsock. Kermit was fine, we met the most respectful family, who agreed to keep an eye out for Kermit, so, we could go back to Benny as the Lifeguards would leave for the day. Well, upon our arrival, Benny was being visited by a little girl, got too close to Benny and Benny barked at the girl. Dam, she could have been bitten!! And the lady who told me the story...she was like two feet from Benny, in his face taking photos. I got there, I told her she was WAY TOO CLOSE. I advised her how far one should be and she told me she had NO IDEA! (WHAT...didnt read the signs we had up?) We gave her the information, she was shocked how close she was able to get. I told her...YOU'RE LUCKY HE DIDNT BITE YOU..she said, THEY BITE?? Yes mam! THe new signs dont have how far one should stay from a seal viewing..neither does the white and blue ones. I think they should add that information. Just a thought. We left Benny again to go check on Kermit, so he was still there at 5:45pm. As for Kermit, he was still there at his spot..but at 6:00pm departed on his own. We thanked the nice family who helped us and then, left for the day...we got to see, yet, another sun set. Seal ya Benny, Seal ya Kermit! Safe journey and seal ya in the AM.
