02/07/2020 Friday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand.  ALSO I want to take this opportunity to share a link from NOAA an update regarding Pohaku.  As long as she's fighting I am hopeful.

Once again before 6 am Team Billand was up and at em. They arrived at paradise cove in the dark and spotted a sleeping critter by the luau ropes. It was RH92 settled in the cold chilly morning air.
They placed the signs so when the early bird tourist arrived they would not bump into her.
RH92 Nalani was very aware of the ropes and somewhat annoyed. She would mouth it, hold it with her flipper and a few times the ropes got in her way when she was getting ready to move.
Team Billand called the hotline and waited. They educated folks as they came down to look.  Team Billand left the site at 7:30 hoping a volunteer would arrive soon.

Team Billand found RN14 Kalani at a beach near the outfall. He was resting alone on the rocks.

They left there and went over to a westside beach and when they arrived they see seals being tossed about by the waves. There were flippers in the air and seal bodies rolling on the rocks. (unfortunately they weren't able to get a photo)
Kekoa Alii RK72 was seen scurrying to his flippers then making a bee line for a choice spot. He went way out and stayed there the rest of the day.
RG28 Lefty got caught by a large wave that tossed them all on the rocks. He was able to claim his space by the seal inlet all day. He was checking out the other two seals (both female)

RH77 Kala was seen with R3CX Nalu, who is pursuing her. They were arguing and she was showing off her strength. After lots of vocals he was respectful and backed off and they settled down.

Barbara was thrilled to see RL20 Kalua haul in. He is a sweet little seal living his life like a big boy. He chose his spot on lower rocks and stayed there on his own all day.

Team Billand saw a person sitting with what they thought was a seal, but it turned out to be a very large turtle basking on shore. There were seals jumping off shore.

Meanwhile Lefty, Kala and Nalu were together in a group. Kala handled both boys, at one point she held Lefty down with her hind flippers!
