At 6:30 am Team Billand were at Paradise Cove waiting for any animals to show. While on shore they started collecting shells and heard a snort and turned to see a head bobbing up and down heading towards them. They quickly took off out of the seals way. (wish I was there to see this).
They waited for the seal to haul out and were able to ID RN14, they called the hotline to report the sighting. At 7:25 RN14 departed Paradise Cove. They promptly called the hotline to cancel any volunteers that might be on their way. Of course they had a hunch where RN14 was heading and sure enough at 7:52 am RN14 slithered into Kahe, alone. He hauled up on the rocks and went to sleep.
Team Billand checked on him one more time in the afternoon and found RN14 in his water hole snoozing.
Today Kaimana is 40 days old, and Rocky usually weans close to the 40-42 day mark. Team Billand decided to pay a visit at 10:00 am. Pup is huge and snoozing next to Mom who is looking very green and not super skinny yet. Team Billand were present during the press conference (see link to civil beat in next post).
Posse pal Gayle found Right Spot (R016) at Kaupo Beach and Buster (RV08) at Sandys. She spent most of her time watching over Buster since there was no one out there. One of the regular beach folks who is familiar with Buster took over when she left.
