9-24-2013 DB's Dailies: Irma & Benny @ KBP, Buster @ BH&SB, Duke@RI, Kea@IR&AD, M&M@WP, Haupu@KoOlina, Kekoa@RR, Makaiwi@KoOlina

At 0559 I found Irma (R010) & Benny (RE74) together again at Kaupo Beach Park. I cordoned them off and they have remained all day. They were gone on my 1704 recheck.

At 0713 I found Buster (RV08) doing 10 minute dives at Blowhole.

At 0900 on a brief look at Rabbit Island I found Duke (RA12), 60 ft left of 1BS.

At 0951 I found Kea (RN46) tucked into the base of the AD wall on the west side. I cordoned him off, but he would reenter the water again at 1011 and swim to the east side of the wall where he foraged and lolled, until hauling out, 125 yds east of the wall at 1105. I put up an SPZ and he remains.

Ocean Safety called at 1332 with the report of an animal at Sandy Beach. When I arrived I found Buster (RV08) fronting the "Gas Chambers" break. I cordoned him off and he remains . Buster departed at 1736.

At 0816 Team Billand reported M&M (R020) fronting #1944, White Plains.

At 1011 the Billands called to advise of a report of 2 animals at Lagoon #3, KoOlina. Vera Cober responded and found only Haupu (RB24). Thanks to Laurie Finley for the shots.

At 1011 Team Billand found Kekoa (RK72), 100 % molted at the Reef Runway.

Vera called at 1112 with the report of Makaiwi (R4DF) at KoOlina. The Billands reported her departure at 1454, though she remains in the area.

I arrived early, DB was there and hadn't yet seen RN46 "Kea", he left. I walked up and down those beaches for 3 hours looking for the "Kea",fishermen at the point near the estuary had seen "da little guy Kea" at dawn when they arrived. When DB arrived to relieve my shift, he waved from the parking lot pointing to the wall and sure enough there was the little guy just hauled out. DB told me to leave cause he had a 3 hours shift ahead to put up the SPZ.
Beach goers are back walking their dogs of leash but ready to put them on if a seal is spotted. There were was an incredible amount of turtles on the shore breaks ;)
