On my 2nd look at Rabbit Island at 0859 I found RM38 at Seal Rock Inlet. He would remain all day.
At 0938 I found Kainoa (RN04) hauling out the the far left end of RI. He would be gone when I got back to the pier at 1349 after my mid day recheck of the SE quadrant.
At 1056 I found what would prove to be Kaiwi (RK96) at Seal Rock Inlet. I thought I saw her RK96 bleach, but the ID was confirmed when I got back to MP, when she showed me her forehead natural bleach, multiple times.

At 1151 posse member, Teri called with the report of a come...look...leave, brief encounter with an animal at Lanai Lookout. Due to what I hope is just a case of temporary insanity, she didn't have binos or a camera with her, but her description of an unreadable bleach number on the back, and a tennis ball sized natural bleach at the right fore flipper, makes the Kolohe (RW22) ID, a no brainer.
At 0653 Team Billand reported an overnighted Kermit (R012) at Wind Sock. He would be gone on the Billands 1830 check.
At 0836 they reported M&M (R020) at Kalaeloa Campgrounds. She has something, on her chest. It may be tissue, but more looks will tell the tale.

The Billands checked in again after there quality time experience with Ewa Girl & Pup at the Reef Runway. Mom & Pup are said to be happy and well.
At 1349 the Billands reported that Buster (RV08) was now with M&M at KCG. I guess his east side Irma Quest has ended. The Billands reported that M&M and Buster departed at 1815, with M&M giving he boy he slip. They would see him briefly at WSK, but after a quick look he continued on.

IT was so hard to take quality photos of the pup, it was totally covered in sand the whole time. And snoozing with Mama..I mean Ewa Girl was first seen like smashing the pup so it wouldnt go any where at all. Maybe being 20 years old says it all. Hard to keep track of a pup at that age, but Ewa Girl is awesome. Really a good, loving mom, tuff.
We were very fortunate to watch one feed...pup started galumphing over mom, mom got the hint, and she slowly rolled to her side so carefully as to not smash the pup. And that pup went right to the source of food...and suckled away. I have forgotten the joy of watching this feed..just so lovingly ... SWEET.
And after that feed, both seals went right back to sleep..there were no visitors, we kept watching the right side as thats the side the visitor seals come from.
There is alot of debri out there in the water and on the shore. Lots of drift woods of all sizes, bottles, shoes, plastics, that worries us. Seal pups will play with all that crap.
Weather was nice, a cool breeze even if it was blazing hot. It was awesome to watch all the jets, roar by...can feel the sound in our chest as they zipped by us. THe seals never reacted to the roaring sounds..just slept in peace. Thats the neat thing of this area, no humans, no dogs, no need for ropes or signs. But we hear the weekends are not so good with jet skis, divers and kayakers.
Sorry the shots were so bad, it was difficult to get decent photos...got to keep hidden. We did alot of ducking as not to disturb the seals. THey were just so awesome to see...just heaven. Looking forward to next weeks observations.
And then we had to deal with kids in the zone at Kalaeloa, tossing wood in the sea, we would run to get it out. There were LOTS of DOGS out at windsock, LOOSE ONES. I kept saying that spot is not a DOG PARK...its a beach where humans sit on shore. Some folks let the dogs poop all over, not nice. And when the dogs go near the seal, man that is a frightening experience...not a pleasant thing to watch..we advise owners keep the dogs on leashes all the time.
One lady got two dogs, that always roam in the zones, she dont care...shame on her. What if one of these days, a seal bites the dogs..what will the owners do???? This so worries us.
OOPS, sun shining, day begins...got to head out. Lets hope the dogs are leashed and kids be respectful of the seals...as well as the adults.
