5-19-2013 DB Dailies: Kainoa,M38,Duke&Sadie@RI, Irma@WSK, M&M, Kermit@WP, Benny@Makaha, RB24@IRQ

On my first look at Rabbit Island , at 0637 I found what would prove to be Duke (RA12), 80 ft left of 1BS. When I got back to the pier at 0802 he had moved down near the water line at the far left end of RI, and would later relocate to 3BS.

On a pan at 0834 I became aware of what would prove to be M38, hidden up in the lush Morning Glory fronting 3BS.

At 0845 it became apparent that there was another animal up there with him. It would later prove to be Sadie (RB12). I think she was yesterday's UF also.

M38 started moving down at 0853 and kept looking back to see if Sadie was following. Finally at 0913 she started down too. Both spent the rest of the day on the water front rocks at 3BS. This is the first time I've seen her since she weaned Kainoa on 4-24-13.

At 1009 Kainoa (RN04), hauled out to 3BS. A bark from M38 moved him a bit further to the right.

At 1046 Duke hauled out to join Kainoa. The kid seemed genuinely happy to have somebody to play with. They entered the water together and at 1121 hauled out together at Right Middle Cliff, approximately 50 ft left of M38's location. M38 made several charges at them to make the point of staying away from him and his woman.

At 0931 Team Billand reported Irma (R010) at Wind Sock.

At 1016 the Billands found M&M (R020) at #1707, White Plains.

Ocean Safety called at 1100 to advise of an animal at Makaha. Debbie would respond, and the Billands confirmed the Benny (RE74) ID at 1432.

At 1234 Team Billand reported Kermit (R012) fronting 1707 , WP.

Cianna called at 1317 with the report of an animal at Iroquois Pt. Dana called to advise that it was RB24, and that Vera was on the scene.

Dana called at 1524 with the report of an animal at Kawela Bay. No further word.

Our thanks to Laurie, Allan and Jean for coming out to help with the three seals at SWQ. It was wild wild west Sunday out there...and thanks to our worrior Volunteer, Debbie out in Makaha with Da Benny.

Ya know, no one knows how Debbie sits out there in the blazing sun, with many locals at Makaha Beach.

I stood with her for an hour, watching all the locals and some tourists just do their thing in FRONT OF BENNY THE ENTIRE VISIT. Our pleas were not taken seriously. They just kept swimming, boogie boarding, walking right by our seal. There were signs out, NO ROPES...surf too rough. We educated those that cared, but the others....BAH!!!!

Makes me feel so worthless in not reaching those guys, just out of control there at makaha. Even small kids just walked by Benny, no worries that the seal could LEAP OUT and BITE THEM.

Why does Benny take this crap??? Why does he lay there, eyes wide opened, how can he get his rest? I didnt make a difference there yesterday at all. I gave DEBBIE a hug, and another hug for her bravery out there for many hours. She sits there, with her drink of coke, her broken umbrella, trying her best to keep things safe. BUT NO ONE CARED. And she never gets another volunteer to help her..she is out there alone ALL THE TIME. I feel badly for DEBBIE, she dont deserve this...she tries so hard. God bless her.
