The day
began at 0553 with a call from Hanauma Bay posse member Ann, reporting an animal
on the beach, fronting "the keyhole" on the left side of the beach. When I got
down there, at 0610, I found Irma (R010) snoozin' on the beach. Jack and I got a
cordon up. Irma would remain until 1145 when the rising tide began to get to
her. My wife, Marilyn, and seal count volunteer Robin, happened to be there when
Irma entered the water. She lolled in the shallows for quite a while, moving
back and forth in the shallows, amongst the greasy snorklers. I got there at
1154, just as Irma was moving through the channel on the left side, heading
outside. We picked up the stuff, and continued the adventure. Many thanks to
Jack and Ann, and of course Missus Whisperer and Robin for being there. Irma
was the only find in the SE quadrant today.
It was not
to be the last of Irma. At 1613 Sandy Beach lifeguards called with the report
of an animal hauling out fronting the Half Point surf spot. When I arrived at
1622 I confirmed that it was Irma (R010). I cordoned her off. I picked up the
rope at 1930. Irma remains.
At 0756 Team Billand
reported R018 at Nimitz Cove. On their 0939 check R018 was gone. He was later
seen foraging by Dana.
At 0853
the Billands found Makaiwi (R4DE) once again on the Ewa Beach side of the east
end perimeter fence at White Plains. Makaiwi departed at 1430.
Vera
Cober called from Ka'ena Point at 0955 with the report of Ka'ena (RO40), Noa
(R6FI), 761 & RIP (RR70) at the point. On her way out, at 1228, she
reported RB00 and Kerby (RW08) approximately 15 minutes from the Waianae trail
head.
Larry Stamey reported the same Ka'ena Point, point
critters.
Team Billand reported Benny
(RE74) at Makaha at 1148.
At 1242 the Billands found
M&M (R020) at Maili. The Dills also reported her during the count.
Diane
and Gabby trekked the outback of the North Shore and found La'akea (RK82) on the
Turtle Bay side of Kahuku Point.
Right Spot was at Shark's Cove today.
