Hanauma Bay
posse member Ann, called at 0639 to report an animal "logging" inside the reef
at HB. I arrived at 0657 and observed from above. The animal was cruisin' just
off shore, mid bay. At 0706 Irma (R010) hauled out, directly in line with the
turn around area down below. I cordoned her off and she has remained all day.
Thanks to the Zeenies & Jack at the Bay, Ann, and probably other unsung
heroes who protected Irma from her adoring fans. Zeeny picked up the equipment
at 1730 when HB closed. Irma remained.
While I
was tending to Irma, posse member Kathy called at 0709 to report Kaiwi (RK96)
just hauling out to Kaiwi Kove, Sandy Beach. I cordoned her off when I arrived
at 0755. Thanks to Elves Kathy,Gayle and June for being there, as always. Kaiwi
departed at 1738.
Marilyn (Missus Whisperer)
did the Ka'ena Point trek today. She found Ka'ena (RO40), Kerby (RW08, RIP
(RR70),Benny (RE74), and BG (R303) at the end of the world.
Dera checked in at 1206 with
the report of R5AY at Malaekahana
Team Billand had one of there
usual busy days. The first call came at 0821 with the report of RB00 at
Electric Beach.
At 0928 they found Kermit
(R012) and M&M (R020) together, fronting #1945, Nimitz Cottages.
At 1240
they reported Pohaku (RO28) at Paradise Cove, KoOlina.
At1447 they reported Noa (R6FI) at Maili Point.
At 1500 I found Buster (1505), 40 ft left of 1BS on
Rabbit Island.
Ocean Safety called at 1527 with the report of a fat
seal in the Waikiki beach replenishment construction area. Thanfully, it was
Sunday. She had a heavy duty cordon, where nobody could get to her. Dana
confirmed the Rocky (RH58) ID at 1555.

Great blog, informative and up to date. Bookmarking your page. Thanks and more power!
It is so nice to meet up with BOO, she is a sweetie. Seems she has taken over this spot, leaving R028 to go BACK to KoOlina. B00 has markers on her face area, over her eye on right side. A cookie on her right head, a cookie on her left side, near her foreflipper. Looks to me she also may have had a transmitter..there is a patch on her backleft section. She looked so pretty in the morning light. But in the afternoon she was gone and there were two folks in her spot.
Finding Kermie and M & M was so sweet to see. I know Kermit is bonded to IRMA, but, these two were so darling. M and m is a SLUT, teasing Kermit, who was TRYING to snooze. M and M kept bugging him, she does this look that melts our hearts. She galumphed over to Kermit, like kissed his snout. He got startled and barked at her and she gave em this look, just so cool to see. She wouldnt give up either. Once she actually slapped Kermie with her hindflippers...and he was all perked up. They kept close most of the day. M and M seems very ansi again, like she been run off badly. She kept popping up, turning around, looking over her shoulder most of the time. She was very alert, but, oh so pretty. She is huge, FAT, a real charming, seal. Kind of a slut mixed up with naughty and nice.Didnt want to leave them at all, but we had other beaches to go to, made a few calls and Clay Gates came to our rescue. God bless you Clay.
Now, at KoOlina we had Pohaku on the reef, blending in so well..couldnt hardly find her. Most folks were fine, but, there were some...tsk. tsk. And we were lucky to have Jim Brown give his time to watch and educate folks so we could continue our route. God Bless ya too JIM BROWN.
And our last find was our precious, little NOA R6FI..he is so handsome, snoozing on the rocks in the CORRECT position to see his cookie scar on his belly, and the tag showing for an easy ID. He was alone and snoring away. Felt so lucky to see him again. Past few days there are fishermen in area and divers. And I had seen a small animal at 7:30am on our first stop. I couldnt get the id as animal was fast in diving deep as he foraged. I watched him for an half an hour with no id. But the kid hauled up in the afternoon so I got lucky.
Weekends are the worst for the critters and us. It is always a blessing to get some help..it is needed, so we can continue our route. Thanks again to Clay Gates and Jim Brown..you are awesome.
And thanks Rob for putting up with my silly worries and long id times. I know its hot out there, I know you're hungry and thirsty, but, got to protect the critters. Hugs to ya for your patience...kisses!!!
