DB Post Saturday 5/23/2009

It was a quiet, beautiful , Rabbit Island kinda' day, except for two brief period of excitement. The cast began with M&M on the beach at the left end, and Ewa Girl and pup doing a swim session off shore of the left end. At 1048, Ewa Girl decided that she just had to haul out exactly where M&M was lying, even though there was an entire island to choose from. It was some kinda' power trip no doubt, but here came Mom and Pup . Ewa Girl gave a bark, and M&M dutifully move off 20 ft to the left. That would have been fine except that the pup decided to go to M&M and even though M&M was beating flipper away from the kid, the pup just kept on comin' with Ewa Girl trying to catch up. The kid was relentless, and finally at 1055 drove M&M into the water. I did not see her again today.

The second bit of excitment could have been a total disaster, but as it turned out was just a few seconds of stark terror for an unsuspecting spear fisherman, who found himself with a face full of pissed off Mom, when he inadvertantly got into Ewa Girls comfort zone, while she and the pup were swimming. I panned over just in time to see a snorkel between Ewa Girl's head and the beach, and in the flash of an eye Ewa Girl was in his face, and he never saw it coming. The poor guy was fortunately in shallow water, and managed to back pedal away from her , up unto the beach with those monster fins they wear now, and the guy was tripping and falling all over himself trying to get away from the charging Ewa Girl. It was all over in seconds and he did manage to get away from her. I don't think he was bitten , but he definitely had an experience he won't soon forget. He went to the far left end of the island and jumped into the water, and returned to his boat, and called it a day.

The only other excitement was Kolohe hauling out at the right end of the beach at 1402. I called it a day at 1600.

Team Billand reported Kermit at Maili Pt. at 0825, and 2AW at Tracks at 0905.
