DB Post Friday 5/22/2009

My day, as well as all of yours, began with the depressing news of the MURDER of what would prove to be RK06, an adult , Kauai , female Monk Seal. Her history shows that she had given us 1 male, 1 U/U, and 3 female pups since 2004. There are no words .

The Rabbit Island cast for today was Ewa Girl & Pup, M&M, and Kolohe. M&M was quite a shock. She is huge !! I do not know if this is her jumping off point for Molokai, or if she will pup at Rabbit Island. We shall see.

Ewa Girl & Pup did 3 feeds and 3 swim sessions. Each of the haul outs was to a different location, but all were at the left end of the beach. M&M was in the same area, and kept an eye on Mom and the kid, staying well clear of them.

Kolohe hauled out to the right end of the beach, and remained by himself all day.

Colleen Heyer called at 0848 to report a Diamond Head animal which would prove to be Irma.

Team Billand had two finds today. 2AW at Makua Beach, and Kermit at Makaha. Kermit was especially good news . He'd last been seen (by the Billands) at Maili Point on 5-13-09.

Finally, on this day of sadness, there is a small bright light. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOJO !!! Today my 2nd born becomes a man. He is 5 years old today !!!
