Melody was in Waikiki so she stopped in to check on Kaiwi RK96 and PO5. They were snoozing on the beach when she arrived. There wasn't much happening for some time, until the tide and waves came crashing over them. That's when Momma Kaiwi decided to move up. 

It was nice of them to move far enough up where people could get a better looks at them. PO5 became very active and decided to play in the sand and bother Momma Kaiwi. Then Mom presented lunch and PO5 went over to nurse for a while. After nursing they nestled alongside each other. Looked like they were going to snooze for a while, so Melody called it a day.

Team R&B only had two seals today. At a west side location up on the rocks with high surf pounding were the brothers.

RP30 Puka and RM31 Kai were together. They got a great picture with RM31's hind flippers over RP30.

May 2, 2023 Tuesday's Dailies

Team R&B started their day walking around waiting for seals and none were around. BUT they did see splashing in the water and it turned out to be a whale breaching way out on the horizon! Nice way to start your day.

They arrived at a west side location and the surf was pounding, waves filling the entire area.  They spotted one seal on mid high rocks. It was RLO8 snoozing alone in the rain.

Next stop at the bay they found two seals together.  There was RG32 from Molokai and the lovely

RH76 Kala. This girl has more males following her for her attention.

At the same site but different spot was RH32 Kaale. He was alone and fast asleep on the coral.

Diane and I viewed Rabbit Island today, and the lighting made it difficult for any decent photos. We stayed for over an hour and had 5 seals today.

Sadie RB12 and PO4 were at LPB, a nursing session was in progress when we arrived. There was some snoozing where PO4 was completely hidden behind Mom. Later there were some wallows and they had gone for a short swim and hauled back out in the same spot.

Pua RF34 and PO3 were close to the shoreline just below the 2BS. PO3 is huge! We captured several positions of the porker with the hope some belly shots could tell us something. I will wait for the official call, but personally I think we have another girl (I hope).

Lastly there was an Unknown Female closer to the 3BS. U/F- subadult to adult size, yellowish female belly and unsure about tags.

May 1, 2023 Monday's Dailies

As a side note today is May Day/Lei Day but more importantly it's KP2 aka Ho'ailona's birthday. 

Melody went to checkup on Mom Kaiwi and PO5 today. She got there pretty early and the two of them were snoozing on the sand.  Melody was told they were out for a swim around 4 am and gone for a few hours. 

PO5 was the first to wake and was active and Kaiwi rolled over for a nursing. After that they went back into snooze mode. About an hour later Kaiwi and PO5 went back into the water and headed towards the Natatorium Wall. That's when

two men appeared standing against the wall watching mom and pup. A DLNR agent on a jet ski came over and talked with them but they didn't leave. Don't think they understood how much danger they were in. HPD came and that is when they finally came out of the water.

After all of that Kaiwi took PO5 way out past the Natatorium. She and the pup swam between the surfers and others. Eventually they headed back toward birth beach, went over to check out the jetty by OCC.

Mom was in teaching mode, Kaiwi showing pup how to forage between the jetty rocks. They were there for a little bit, then went back to birth beach slowly hauling out. Once they landed there was a nursing session and Melody called it a day.

At a west side location Team R&B were delighted to find RP30 Puka, RH76 Kala and RG32 fighting on the rocks. They had all just hauled up. Eventually they all settled down and snoozed on the rocks.

While at the site they heard and spotted a commotion off shore in the water. There were three seals

fighting like crazy. Three males RL08, RH32 Kaale and RM31 Kai.

Kai RM31 was the only one to land at seal inlet.  Kaale RH32 and RL08 continued arguing off shore.

Lastly they met a new seal today. A female RK42, who is from Kauai (possibly). She has numerous cc scars under belly and one that is healing on her side.  Glad she was alone and not with the arguing boyz.
