7-2-2014 DB's Dailies: Sadie,Pua,Aukai,Kainoa&Kolohe@RI, Benny&Pohaku@Makua Cliffs, RIP&Nihoa@LahiLahi, Luana@Mokuleia,RK36,M&M, Temp402&Ka'ena@KP

At 0636 I found an U/U , adult sized animal doing 7-9 minute dives at Blowhole. It seemed to be a smaller animal than Buster and the dive times were definitely different. When I got back at 0841 the animal was no longer there. This is a replay of yesterday.

On that occasion Kolohe later showed upat Spitting Cave. I’ve got an opinion, of course. More later.

At 0910 on my 2nd Rabbit Island look, I found Sadie (RB12) , and Aukai (RL12) at the far left end of the beach, and Kainoa (RN04, 30 ft left of 1BS.

At 0915 I became aware of what would prove to be Pua (RF34) in the shore break fronting the left end animals. Though the day she would haul out multiple times with the rest of the gang.

At 1055 Kolohe (RW22) hauled out to join the gang. I’ve got a cat on him being the BH animal this morning, but ????

The Billands........ Yes ! They are back, called at 1543 to advise that they had found Benny (RE74) and Pohaku (RO28) together at Makau Cliffs. The significance of that is that Pohaku just weaned her male pup, PK2 on Kauai yesteday, and already she is back home. (See Gary Langley’s PK2's weaner shots from yesterday). YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!  oops sorry, I just happy to hear they're back.

At 1616 during a conversation with Tracy , she advised that Mark had been to Ka’ena Point on a bleaching mission yesterday. He got Ka’ena (N9), Kerby (N8), and RL42 (N20). Photos will follow.

At 1635 Team Billand reported RIP (RR70) and Nihoa (R912) at LahiLahi, Makaha.

At 1645 Kimo Smith called to advise that he’d seen Luana (RN58) at the birth beach, Mokuleia, RK36 & M&M (R020) at the Main Pool, Temp402 at the Runway, and Ka’ena (RO40) at Ka’ena’s Pool .

Weaner PK2 - Pohaku's little dude <- okay not so little
 clean mouth...
 won't be clean for long
i love the determination on their face when they are playing with a stick
THANK YOU GARY!!!

7-1-2014 DB's Dailies:BG&KBP, Sadie,Pua&Aukai@RI, Kolohe@SC, Kaiwi@SC

At 0647 I found an U/U doing 7 minute dives at Blowhole. My first thought is always Buster, however that might not be the case today, based on a later find at SC. This animal was gone on my 2nd check.

At 0759 I found BG (R303) out on the rocks at Kaupo Beach Park. I’d last seen her there, at basically the same location on 4-16-14. She would depart of her own volition at 1108.

At 0822 Gayle called with the report of an animal at Spitting Cave. When I got there at 0916 we determined that it was Kolohe (RW22) by his right side natural bleach. Gayle managed to get a shot of it. My thought was that he might well have been the Blowhole animal but ??????

I got to my Rabbit Island observations at 1024. I found Sadie (RB12), once again at the far left end of the beach, near the water line. I also noted 2 partially visible animals playing in the shallows fronting Sadie. They would haul out to the left rock flats at 1120 where I would make the Pua (RF34) & Aukai (RL12) ID.  Pua would reenter the water at 1228 and return to the shallows fronting Sadie (mom). She made moves to get close to her, but each time Sadie snorted she would hurriedly return to the water.
When Sadie had enough of the annoyance she moved up, but Pua followed, maintaining a safe distance. They were still there at the end of the observation period.

At 1050 Gayle called with the report of Kaiwi (RK96) at China Walls.

I’ve gotten no other info for the rest of Oahu so far today.

BG... another pretty shot...
nice to have you in the neighborhood BG

6-30-2014 DB's Dailies: Sadie,Pua,Kolohe,Kainoa&Aukai@RI, Kaiwi@KK, Buster@SB, Haupu,Kerby&Nihoa@LahiLahi

On my 2nd look at Rabbit Island at 0948 I found Sadie (RB12) at the left end of the beach, near the water line. At 0957 Kolohe (RW22) hauled out to join her.

At 1026 I noticed Pua (RF34) in the shallows below the other two. She rolled in the shore break and stayed in the shallows, never hauling out.

On a pan a 1105 I found Kainoa (RW22) & Aukai (RL12) together on the water front rocks left of Seal Rock Inlet.

Gayle called at 1227 with the report of Kaiwi (K96) at the Kokee Flats.

At 1544 Cianna called with the report of an animal attempting to haul out to Eternity Beach. While driving Cianna advised that the animal had departed. When I arrived at 1551 I found an animal at Blowhole and shortly thereafter it headed off in a Sandy Beach direction. From Blowhole I observed it haul out to the far west end of SB. When I got down there, I confirmed the Buster (RV08) ID. I cordoned him off. He was still there when I departed at dark.

At 1050 Cianna called with a report from Karen Turner of La’akea (RK82) at the Elbow, Kaihalulu Beach, Turtle Bay.

At 1342 FD dispatch called with the report of 3 animals at LahiLahi Beach, Makaha. When I contacted Dana she advised that she was already on her way. At 1459 Dana called saying that she believed the animals to be Haupu (RB24), a possible Kerby(RW08) & a possible Nihoa(R912).  At 3 AM I finally got my Yahoo back, and got to Dana’s shots. She was correct on all counts.
