6/27/2018 Monk Seal Dailies (part 2) Lesley's Ka'ena Update

Laptop is still under weather, so this is another cup & paste or photos of camera screen then editing - result is poor quality pics

I spent the +2.5 hours this morning at the playpen.
First seal was R303 BG hauled out mid beach. Wallows & trails show that she may have overnighted.
RK88 Puna (M) D60 and RK40 Napua (F) D54 were playing in the tide pools of Left Cove.
An hour went by, Puna decided to haul out, he stretched his head spotted BG and went for her. When he got there she said something to him that made him roll on his side and belly up. He tried once again then moved 30 feet away.
Half an hour later Napua did the same track towards BG half way down the beach. BG said th same thing to her, same reaction was as Puna's but she kept coming back for more.
I went to the Pt and when I came back Carolyn HMRA told me BG had left bc of Napua bugging her. While we spoke Napua went to Puna and started bulling him. Trying to nurse, trying to bite, trying to get his attention desperately. He kept avoiding her rolling over or gallumphing further away.

At the point I saw an U/U on the outside reef on a rock - first time I see a seal there.  He was knocked down by a wave and left.
RR70 RIP swam into the Main Pool did a checking swim than disapeared.
In his pool RO40 Ka'ena was doing the Hippo thing than he moved on to a ledge and I was able to confirm his ID.

It was very hot and windy today
