6/9/2018 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Melody. I know there was some activity out there today based on some of the post on social media. Good news Kaiwi was spotted south east side today, and she's looking good.

Team Billand was on it early mostly searching for Ka'ale who is believed to be hooked once again. It's been 3 days since he was last seen. Hopefully little butt head will find his buddies soon.
The first stop at a Leeward Beach they found RN14 on the rocks in a deep sleep. On a check later in the day he was gone from the site, and the waves were pretty big washing over the rocks.

Team Billand received a call from Auntie Nettie that a seal came up on shore and is near the gate of Paradise cove.  Team Billand called the hotline and headed over, they were aware Auntie was upset but the people approaching.
When Team Billand arrived volunteer Karen was there talking to a young'en, the place was crowded and the waves were big crashing over the rocks. Benny RE74 was in the left corner near the Naupaka. Aunties family did the best they could and put up signs and ropes.  Team Billand left the site knowing a volunteer was on site to take care of things.

Back on the west side Team Billand had received information earlier there was a seal foraging offshore. After leaving Paradise Cove they headed over and found Pohaku RO28 galumphing higher up to the ropes of Luau. She is big and healthy and no signs of any injuries or new markers.  They flagged people to go around, the folks from the Luau brought signs and it was set to start soon. Team Billand called the hotline, and they also sent a text to Melody.  They stayed until 4:30 this afternoon, another long hot day.

Melody went out to visit the playpen today and met up with Lesley while there. Melody stayed for a while and was able to watch the interaction between the cousins PO4 "Puna" and PO5 "Napua" and Momma RL42 Leia.  (thank you Melody for the video).  Puna did a lot of barking, whether he was lonely or just discovering his voice. Leia RL42 is getting thinner, so it may not be long before we have another weaner. Hopefully the cousins will keep each other company.

As mentioned above Melody checked in on Pohaku after hearing from Team Billand. AND lastly Melody reports Rocky was back on her beach in Ewa again today. Unfortunately Melody did not see her because she was with the other seals. Sounds like she might be spending the night, so she'll check first thing in the morning.
