06/24/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: (part 1)

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Melody and Lesley.  Lesley's complete Ka'ena update is part 2 of the dailies.  There is also an update in Yesterday's News from Melody's visit to the playpens.

Team Billand was at White Plains at 6:50 am checking out the shore line. It took a little bit but they did spot a huge bump of a seal. They got the signs put up a zone before anyone got to the area. As soon as they were done, the folks from the cabin were coming out for their morning, all were respectful and fun to talk with.
They called the hotline. Then Barbara sent Melody a text since she lives nearby. Seems Team Billand found a pretty little parakeet who needed some food and water. Thankfully Melody was able to respond within a half hour.

Team Billand was given a small box, and a small cap for water for the little bird. Team Billand left to get some parakeet food and took the birdie home.  Then they returned back to White Plains, and Melody was there, and the seal Pohaku was getting ready to leave. At about 11:30 Pohaku entered the water heading in a westerly direction. Rob and Lifeguard pulled the signs and put away.

Melody arrived at Plains about 9:15 and a volunteer was already there.  They scoped out  the area and the tide was beginning to rise. Just after 10 the volunteer had to leave, and Melody stayed on.  The tide was continuing to rise and then about 11:30 she headed into the water.  Thank you Melody for helping out with Pohaku, I am sure the parakeet and Team Billand are grateful.

Team Billand after rechecking on Pohaku and getting birdy settled in at home, was on route to their regular stops. At a Leeward Beach they found a very green critter on the rocks. Turns out RH32 Ka'ale was there resting peacefully. Where he goes in between is for sure a mystery. He was still there when Team Billand did their recheck.

Stopping off at another beach, Team Billand spot two bumps from a far. They get to the site and immediately ID Lei Ola RH48.  They spot a male, he moved a bit and his N14 bleach is visible. He's back in the neighborhood again.  Lei Ola moves up as water starts to reach her, he follows after a while.  RN14 settled in the little water hole. When Team Billand rechecked they were both still there together snoozing.

In yesterday's news: Melody went to visit the cousin at the playpen. For the three hours she spent observing them, they were in the water the entire time. They certainly are pretty adorable together!
