6/1/2018 Monk Seal Dailies (part 1)

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Tammy, Melody and Lesley. Lesley's complete Ka'ena Point Update is part 2 of the dailies.  And Tammy was out at the point today but she was skunked !

Team Billand was out early looking for Ka'ale RH32, and although he was not at the Outfall when they arrived, they were told by the fishermen he had been there earlier.  They checked a beach close by and found him sleeping on the rocks. They checked on him a little later and he remains.  Unfortunately they were approached by "strange character" and decided to keep a low profile.

Their next stop at a Leeward beach Team Billand spotted two seals having "words" so they hurried to the area and found. RN14 Kalani on the lower rock trying to haul up. Rip RR70 on the rocks blocking his entrance with his huge body.  Kalani (RN14) was persistant barking at Rip, Rip moved forward with mouth wide open. Kalani RN14 rests for a bit, Rip rests but keeping an eye on each other.
Suddenly Rip moves forward, both just leaping at each other, fight was loud, and then Rip decides to just leave. Kalani stays, on lower rocks and Rip headed straight out to sea and not seen the rest of the day.

Melody was in need of a cuteness fix this afternoon so she decided to head out and visit the pups at the playpen. She hadn't seen them in a couple of weeks and we all know how fast they grow. When she arrived around noon time both Moms and pups were all out for a swimming session in the surf. They each went their separate ways out of the SRA zone. Leia (RL42) and Napua PO5 headed north towards the point and Luana RN58 and Puna PO4 went all the way down near the Camp.  The volunteer on site was worried they were going to haul out well outside of the SRA. But in the end like a good Mama Luana brought herself and Puna back into the SRA.  When Melody left the site at 2:00 both had their swimm sessions, nursing, and snoozing for a long nap.
Melody also took a couple cute videos well worth the look.
