11/10/2014 DB's Dailies: Kolohe & U/U @ RI, Kea@SB, Benny&Haupu @ White Plains

When I arrived at Sandy Beach at 0625 Kea was gone. I picked up the stuff and continued the adventure. I was back on a bench at the outfall at 0730 to wait for the little dude, and sure enough at 0750 he came swimming in, hauling out to the Sandy Beach side of the outfall at 0753. He would ultimately move more onto the rocks at his usual hang out. I redid the SPZ . He has remained all day. Kea had a celebrity guest star visitor today. None other than the legendary Molokai Di (aka Diane Pike) stopped to meet our boy. So what does the Molokai Monk Seal Guru do when she comes to the big city ??? Why she hangs out with Monk Seals, of course !

I arrived at Makai Pier for Rabbit Island observations at 0933. I found Kolohe (RW22) at the water line , far left end of the beach. I thought he would be the only RI resident today, but that would prove to be wrong.

At 1037 two “bad guys” arrived at RI, having snorkeled over from Kaupo Beach Park. There would be no DOCARE response. They began exploring the island heading right, and at 1043 I could see by their body language that they were looking at something, out of my line of sight at Rocky Right Beach. Ultimately, they returned to their starting point and departed at 1052. I met them at Kaupo Beach Park and after some Rabbit Island 101, I asked what they had seen. Sure enough it had been a seal. They could provide no info except that it had red tags. I relocated to the Makapuu Overview and at 1157 spotted the animal behind the water front rocks or Rocky Right Beach. It has been completely invisible to me at the pier. At that distance, with all the heat distortion it was impossible to make an ID, but it did appear to be a new coat.

At 1223 Team Billand checked in with the report of Benny (RE74) fronting #1708, White Plains. The said he’d arrived 20 minutes earlier.

At 1236 they called again with the report of the arrival of Haupu (RB24) between the fence line and Tower#1. She departed at 1722.

There are two Yesterday’s News items. Firstly, Gary Langley sent some shots of Pohaku’s son , RF28 on Kauai.

Larry Stamey trekked to the end of the world yesterday and found Luana (RN58) at 10 min beach, and RIP (RR70) and younger brother Ka’ena (RO40) on the back beach of Ka’ena Pt.

Bad Bad Boys!  I hope they got the message to stay off the island
